2019 PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE USA (COACHES): PR Maurice Alexander, Sr., FIU,...Alexander had a breakout season in 2018, after making the move from quarterback to wideout and return man. The Florida City, Florida native was a highlight reel in the return game (when teams were brave enough to kick to him) as he averaged 14.6 yards per punt return to rank fifth in the nation among those with at least three returns on the year. Alexander's breakout game in 2018 came against UMass, as the Panther racked up 1 36 return yards and scored on a 69-yard scamper to help FIU roll over the Minutemen. Alexander was awarded C-USA First Team honors for his special team efforts in 2018. - Florida International Football

Ole Miss transfer Van Jefferson had a productive first season at wide receiver for the Gators last year, leading the team in receptions with 35 for 503 yards and six touchdowns. Based on the work he's been putting in this summer, he might be looking to h ave a major breakout season this fall. "He is a worker," Mullen said. "He's one of those guys that is constantly working every day on being a better route runner, working on his hands, studying the game, understanding the game."Coming back this ye ar, he's a guy that has great maturity to understand and say, "OK, here's the parts of my game that I need to work on to make it to the next level." "Our program is about hard work. And that's something he believes in, so I think it's a great fit for him to be in a program that really has the same values that he has." - Gainesville Sun

The Gophers have lost a second player to medical retirement this offseason. Redshirt freshman running back Nolan Edmonds medically retired, a source confirmed Tuesday. He is no longer listed on the Gophers online roster. The 5-11, 200-pound Georgia nativ e was a three-star recruit. He had yet to play for the Gophers and was injured during spring football. Edmonds follows defensive lineman Alexander Reigelsperger in stepping away from the game in the past week. The fellow redshirt freshman endured a concu ssion and C4 vertebra fracture during spring football. Just like Reigelsperger, Edmonds will be a medical non-counter, which allows the Gophers to keep his scholarship going without it impacting the the total allotment. - Minneapolis Star Tribune

In the midst of a go-route during a 7-on-7 drill before his senior year of high school, Laviska Shenault noticed out of the corner of his eye that he was rapidly approaching a set of bleachers resting on the sidelines, just outside of the white lines of the field. "I'm just running and, as the ball gets closer and closer, I realize the bench is right there," he said. A crash was inevitable, but Shenault put his forearm up to block his face just in time. He was left with a cut under his eye, a nasty scar that still remains on his right forearm and the wind knocked out of him. "I barely blocked myself in the right way," Colorado's star receiver said recently in recalling that scary moment. "I've got a lot of scars and some of the scars could have ended m y career."Shenault also has scars on his leg and chest and he has spent this offseason recovering from toe and shoulder surgeries. No, the best football player CU has had in years is not invincible, but he is determined and he hasn't been fazed by anything that's left its permanent mark on his body. "Yeah, I'm a soldier," he said. "I'm never nervous, regardless of what I'm doing. I go out thinking I'm about to just be me. I don't think about getting hurt. You think about getting hurt, you get hur t." - Daily Camera

Al abama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa opened as the minus 200 favorite to be the No. 1 pick, and his odds haven't moved.Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert also is holding steady as the 4-1 second choice. Georgia QB Jake Fromm's odds have improved from 6 -1 to 5-1, and every other player is at least 20-1.
