10/23/20 - QB Grayson McCall, rSr/2025, North Carolina State + More +   Through four games, McCall has completed 59 of 87 passes (68%) for 930 yards and 11 touchdowns with one interception, and is second on the team in rushing with 184 yards and three scores on 42 carries. "For me it was more of a matter of when and not if," Hertz said. "He's just too talented and he really demonstrated a ton of leadership and maturity his senior year, and I was just really hoping that would carry over into college and obviously it did." 10/23/20 - QB JT Daniels, rSr/2024, Rice + More +   Georgia enters an off week before traveling to face Kentucky on Oct. 31 - a week later than originally planned due to a pandemic-related SEC schedule change. Many outside the program beg the question - Where has JT Daniels been? The former Southern Cal transfer who received an immediate eligibility waiver has become a frequent addition to the trends list on Twitter during Georgia games. No matter how Bennett has done, there have been inquiries about Daniels. Daniels threw for 2,672 yards, 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions during his first season as a Trojan. He suffered a torn ACL in the 2019 season opener against Fresno State, and had a clean-up knee procedure in December which delayed his recovery. Prior to the Auburn game on October 10, Daniels received medical clearance for contact. He has traveled, been a full participant in warmups, but has yet to see the field. By some indications, Daniels' isn't yet ready to run a Todd Monken-based offense while still rehabbing from his knee injury and sporting a bulky knee brace. Monken, who has experience with a plethora of offensive styles, said it's "hard to be a statue" and produce explosive plays offensively. Monken's philosophy answers why Georgia brought in Newman, started Mathis and now has stuck with Bennett. They all feature a dual-threat option. They can move in the pocket. Daniels, who already resembles Fromm-like mobility, might have lingering soreness in his knee. 10/21/20 - QB Grayson McCall, rSr/2025, North Carolina State + More +   For the second time this season, Coastal Carolina football's Grayson McCall was recognized by The Manning Award, sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, as one of the "Stars of the Week" for week seven. He was also honored for the weekly award back on Sept. 14, following the Chants' season-opening win at Kansas (Sept. 12). Playing in his first Sun Belt Conference road game, McCall went 17-of-24 for 202 yards and two scores through the air, while also running 11 times for 45 yards and a touchdown in the win at No. 21 Louisiana (Oct. 14) last week. His move to middle linebacker should enhance both his statistics and the play of the defense. He will be the quarterback of the unit and pile up a high tackle count after he made 72 tackles in 2019. In a team statement released Friday, it was announced that senior defensive end Samdup Miller, senior quarterback Aidan Smith, senior safety Travis Whillock and redshirt sophomore tight end Jason Whittaker were all opting out of the 2020 season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Miller is certainly the Cats' most experienced player to opt out with 35 career starts entering this season - the most of any returner coming into this season. 10/19/20 - RB Journey Brown, rSr/2022, Penn State + More +   Penn State says running back Journey Brown could miss the season due to a "medical condition." 247 Sports first reported Monday that the eighth-ranked Nittany Lions might be without their leading rusher from 2019. "Journey Brown is being treated for a medical condition discovered during the offseason and will potentially miss the 2020 football season," the school said in a statement. Penn State opens its season Saturday at Indiana. The Nittany Lions already took a significant loss this offseason when All-America linebacker Micah Parsons opted out in August. Brown, a fourth-year junior, had a breakout season last year and emerged from a crowded backfield to become Penn State's top ballcarrier. He ran for 890 yards, 12 touchdowns and 6.8 yards per carry. In Penn State's Cotton Bowl victory against Memphis, Brown ran 202 yards, a school record for a bowl game. D.J. Uiagalelei, Clemson's top backup QB, was held out of Saturday's game because he was sore, according to Swinney. Uiagalelei was available, Swinney said, but Clemson didn't want to use him unless it had to. Swinney declined to say what specifically is sore for Uiagalelei. The Chanticleers from Conway, South Carolina, joined the FBS in 2017. They beat Sun Belt rival Louisiana-Lafayette last Wednesday to improve to 4-0. 10/17/20 - QB Hendon Hooker, rSr/2023, Tennessee + More +   Hendon Hooker ran for a career-high 164 yards and three touchdowns and threw for a score in Virginia Tech's victory over Boston College. Khalil Herbert added 143 yards rushing for the Hokies (3-1, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). They ran for 350 yards in bouncing back from a road loss to North Carolina. Virginia Tech scored off of four of BC's five turnovers to pull away. 10/17/20 - WR Shai Werts, rSr/2022, Louisville + More +   Shai Werts threw three touchdown passes and added a 4-yard touchdown run to help Georgia Southern beat Massachusetts 41-0 on Saturday. Werts was 11-of-16 passing for 128 yards with no interceptions and finished with 13 carries for 76 yards. On the fifth play from scrimmage, Werts hit Malik Murray for a 47-yard touchdown catch-and-run, then added TD passes of 8 and 10 yards to Beau Johnson that gave Georgia Southern (3-1) a 21-0 lead with 9:12 left in the first half. UMass (0-1) was limited to 191 total yards, converted just 2-of-13 third downs with four three-and-outs, and never moved past the Georgia Southern 21-yard line. UMass announced the cancellation of its 2020 football season on Aug. 11 due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic but later reversed course and on Sept. 21 the school said it would play a limited number of games to be announced as they are scheduled and Saturday's contest against Georgia Southern is the only one currently on the slate for the Minutemen. Georgia Southern's 25,000-seat Allen E.
