Davis Warren and Alex Orji each threw a touchdown pass, Will Johnson returned an interception for a score and No. 9 Michigan started defense of its national championship with a 30-10 win over Fresno State on Saturday night. The Wolverines (1-0) were slug gish on offense for much of the night, breaking in new quarterbacks behind a revamped offensive line and Sherrone Moore, who made his coaching debut as Jim Harbaugh's full-time replacement. Johnson picked off a p ass on the ensuing possession and returned it 86 yards, making the score lopsided in a game that was close for much of the night. The game opened with Orji throwing a 3-yard touchdown pass to Donovan Warren, but the rest of the night didn't go very smoot hly for Moore's team until late in the game. Davis, a former walk-on who overcame leukemia in high school, was 15 of 25 for 118 yards with a touchdown and an interception. - AP College Football

Dylan Raiola passed for 238 yards and two touchdowns in his college debut and Nebraska beat UTEP 40-7 Saturday for its first win in a season opener in five years. Raiola showed poise throughout against the overmatched Miners and flashes of the flair that made him a five-star recruit and the highest-rated player to ever sign with the Cornhuskers. Both of his touchdown passes were perfectly placed. The first, for 59 yards, went to Texas transfer Isaiah Neyor, who was well covered when he caught the ball o ver his shoulder along the right sideline. Neyor stumbled as he pulled the ball in at the 12, regained his balance and ran into the end zone.On his second TD pass, Raiola lofted the ball to the outside shoulder of Wake Forest transfer Jahmal Banks , who jumped to bring down the ball in the back corner of the end zone. Raiola had pledged to Ohio State and Georgia before he told Nebraska coach Matt Rhule in mid-December he wanted to play where his father, Dominic, was an All-America center in 2000. His long-anticipated first game for the Huskers brought 86,000 to Memorial Stadium, and he undoubtedly sent the fans home happy. He played one series in the second half and was 19 of 27 for 238 yards when he turned things over to Heinrich Haarberg. - AP College Football

Wisconsin's only punt of the nght resulted in arguably the biggest play of the game. The Badgers were trailing early in the fourth quarter when a punt from Atticus Bertrams bounced sideways and hit Western Michigan's DaShon Bussell, who was trying to get away from it. Wisconsin's Austin Brown pounced on the loose ball at Western Michigan's 20-yard line. That turnover resulted in a Tawee Walker 6-yard touchdown run that put Wisconsin ahead for good with 10:35 remaining in the Badgers' 28-14 season-openin g victory Friday night. "That completely flipped the field, took all the momentum out of their sails and put it into ours," Wisconsin safety Hunter Wohler said. "We were able to capitalize and finish the game out." Walker, an Oklahoma transfer, rushed fo r 66 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Chez Mellusi led Wisconsin's rushing attack with 74 yards and a touchdown on 19 attempts.Western Michigan's Jalen Buckley rushed for 64 yards and had two 1-yard touchdown runs. Wisconsin, which entered as a 24 1/2-point favorite, had a tougher time than expected before winning for the 28th time in its last 29 home openers. The exception was a 16-10 loss to Penn State in 2021. "It was a challenge," Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell said. "I think more than anyt hing you've got to find ways to win. That's what we did tonight." On his go-ahead touchdown, Walker bounced off cornerback Aaron Wofford inside the 5 and bulled his way into the end zone. Tyler Van Dyke's two-point conversion pass to Trech Kekahuna made it 21-14 with 10:35 left. Wisconsin's Aaron Witt and Nyzier Fourqurean stopped Buckley on fourth-and-1 from midfield to end Western Michigan's next possession. Van Dyke then scored from 6 yards out to make it 28-14 with 3:17 left. Xavier Lucas picked off a Hayden Wolff pas with less than two minutes remaining to seal the victory. - AP College Football
