Nick Saban and his Alabama Crimson Tide had a long week. Seven days filled with doubt, disgust and uncharacteristic angst. But a week after Alabama lost at Texas A&M, Bryce Young threw for 348 yards and four touchdowns and the No. 5 Crimson Tide rebounde d to to rout Mississippi State 49-9 on Saturday night. Alabama (6-1, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) had 543 yards of total offense and the Crimson Tide had seven sacks. Alabama converted 12 of 16 third-down opportunities. "I was really, really proud of the way our players competed," Saban said. "We played a 60-minute game, and sort of dominated in the game. That's the way we like to play, and it's the way you want to play on the road." Mississippi State (3-3, 1-2) had 24 first downs but managed only 299 t otal yards and had three turnovers. Mike Leach's team finished with minus-1 yards rushing.Alabama scored first against the Bulldogs and never trailed, leading 21-6 at the half. On the opening play of the third quarter, Young shaved the baby to hit Jameson Williams for a 75-yard touchdown strike and the rout was on. "This is really the first time all year that we really have done this the way we'd like to do it," Saban said. Roydell Williams ran for 78 yards. Brian Robinson Jr. rushed for 73 yards and two touchdowns and caught five passes for 68 yards and another touchdown. John Metchie had seven catches for 117 yards and a touchdown. Traseshon Holden also caught a touchdown pass. "We have some dynamic guys," Young said. "My job is just to find a way to get them the ball, and to try to get them the ball in a place where they can run and be special after (the catch). I think all of them did that tonight." Safety Jordan Battle had two of the Tide's three interceptions. - Alabama/AP College Footbal l

Abram Smith and Dillon Doyle were quite a 1-2 running punch for Baylor, providing future Big 12 foe and 19th-ranked BYU a glimpse at what the Cougars could face in their new conference. Smith ran for 188 yards with three touchdowns, while linebacker and part-time fullback Doyle scored on both of his offensive touches in a 38-24 win Saturday. "Obviously not our best game," BYU coach Kilani Sitake said. "We just were out-physicaled today, so that was a difficult game to accept...Really got a good gut-chec k." Baylor (6-1) led by only three points midway through the third quarter before Doyle caught a 2-yard TD pass from Gerry Bohanon.Smith ran for a 7-yard score about 3 1/2 minutes later to make it 31-14, after TJ Franklin's sack that forced a fumb le by Cougars quarterback Jaren Hall. "This was a standard game...I think is a big thing for us, having it come from the inside, intrinsically being able to push yourself," second-year Bears coach Dave Aranda said. "That's a big step in the right directi on." BYU (5-2) last month accepted an invitation to join the Big 12 Conference starting in the 2023 season. The Cougars have lost back-to-back games for the first time since the end of 2019, after a 5-0 start that included three wins over Pac-12 teams an d peaking at No. 10 in the AP Top 25. - Baylor/AP College Football

Clemson (4-2, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference), coming off a bye week, played its first game as a te am not ranked by the AP since Nov. 22, 2014, a 28-0 win against Georgia State, and held on for the victory after Syracuse place-kicker Andre Szymt missed a 48-yard field goal attempt with 38 seconds left. Syracuse (3-4, 0-3) is in the same boat, but the Orange aren’t winning. Nebraska offensive lineman Teddy Prochazka will miss the rest of the season because of a knee injury. The freshman was hurt in the 32-29 loss to Michigan on Saturday, his second start at left tackle. Coach Scott Frost said Prochazka would have surgery ne xt week and should return for spring practice. “You feel terrible for anybody when they get hurt," Frost said Monday. "These kids put so much time and effort and energy into this and Teddy's been just improving by leaps and bounds since he got here. He was getting to reap the benefit of that. It's a tough setback. Guys come back from these things and he'll be fine.” Turner Corcoran will take over for Prochazka at left tackle and Bryce Benhart will move into Corcoran's spot at right tackle for the Co rnhuskers' game at Minnesota this Saturday. Prochazka was the second true freshman in the modern era to start a game at left tackle. Corcoran was the first, getting the start at Rutgers in 2020. - AP College Football
