Grayson McCall raced untouched for a 25-yard touchdown on the first play of overtime, Silas Kelly sacked South Alabama's Jake Bentley on the final play and Coastal Carolina beat the Jaguars 27-21 on Friday. Coastal Carolina (10-2, 6-2 Sun Belt Conference), which was ranked No. 22 in the preseason poll and climbed as high as No. 14 after winning its first six games, fell out of the Top 25 after a 42-40 loss to Georgia Southern two weeks ago. The Chanticleers are headed to a bowl for the second consecutive season and the second time in program history after moving to the FBS level full-time in 2017.

Bentley hit Jalen Tolbert at the 10 and he raced for a 57-yard touchdown and a 2-point conversion gave South Alabama (5-7, 2-6) a 21-14 lead with 4:24 left in regulation. The Chanticleers answered with a 10-play, 82-yard drive to force overtime when Bryce Carpenter took the snap and scored from 2-yards out with 39 seconds remaining. Carpenter, a 6-foot-1, 210 pound senior, is 41-of-69 (59.4%) passing for 483 yards and four touchdowns and has 54 carries for 217 yards and three scores this season. Kelly finished with eight tackles - including the clinching sack, which gave him 2 1/2 this season - and an interception at the 5. Coastal Carolina then went 95 yards, using 19 plays and chewing up nearly 9 1/2 minutes, to trim its deficit to 10-7 when McCall threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Jaivion Heiligh with 2:24 left in the third quarter. Shermari Jones scored on a 75-yard on the first play of the fourth quarter and South Alabama's Diego Guajardo made a 30-yard field goal to make it 14-13 with 11:14 left in regulation. - Coastal Carolina/AP College Football

All season, Tennessee coach Josh Heupel has stressed maintaining a high competitive level, no matter the opponent. Saturday night, thanks to a 60-14 win over South Alabama, Heupel's players proved they got the message. "They answered my question," Heupel said. "Who are we going to be? We were assignment sound. We took care of business." Hendon Hooker threw for 273 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another to lead Tennessee. The nonconference win gives the Volunteers (6-5) bowl eligibility in Heupel's first season. The Jaguars (5-6) have one more try to reach that level under first-year coach Kane Wommack. "(Bowl eligibility) is important for sure," Heupel said. "Nobody focused on that part of it. We just wanted to continue to grow and compete. Now we have an opportunity to grow and compete in December." Hooker connected on 17 of 20 passes, with touchdowns going to Cedric Tillman (27 yards) and Princeton Fant (24).

Jabari Small rushed for 73 yards and a pair of TDs. Jalen Wright and Len'Neth Whitehead also scored one on the ground. "(We were) hitting on every angle," Hooker said. "We're trying to tire you out tonight." "(Hooker) keeps being aggressive," Heupel said. "He's a competitor." Besides an offense that collected 561 yards, the Vols defense stifled the Jaguars with 1 of 16 in third-down conversions and had 13 tackles for loss. "We did a good job of maxing things out (on defense)," Heupel said. "We had pressure on their quarterback." - Tennessee/AP College Football

Self squeezed over from the 1 twice in the first quarter to put SFA up 14-0. After Bailey Giffen got the Cardinals on the board with a 32-yard field goal, Self threw a nine-yard strike to Jeremiah Miller and a 7-yard strike to Lawton Rikel.   Frank Harris threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Oscar Cardenas with three seconds left, rallying No. 15 UTSA to a wild 34-31 victory over UAB on Saturday. The Roadrunners (11-0, 7-0) defeated the reigning three-time Conference USA West champion Blazers (7-4, 5-2) to clinch their first division title. Trailing much of the game, the Roadrunners got the ball back with 1:09 left after stuffing the Blazers a yard short of a first down on third-and-4 at the UAB 42. Following a punt, Harris drove UTSA 77 yards on seven plays. The winning touchdown came after Harris fumbled the snap and had his pass tipped by UAB linebacker Noah Wilder before Cardenas caught it in the back of the end zone. Harris completed 25 of 35 passes for 323 yards and three touchdowns. The senior set the school single-season record with 21 touchdown passes on his first TD Saturday.

Dylan Hopkins passed for 254 yards and two touchdowns and DeWayne McBride rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries for UAB. The Roadrunners took their first lead late in the third quarter on Hunter Duplessis' 49-yard field goal to go up 27-24. Duplessis had a 51-yarder earlier. UTSA had a season-high 35,147 in attendance at the Alamodome, and the crowd had an impact as it did last week against Southern Miss. UAB had three false starts, a delay of game and had to call its final timeout with 5:25 left in the game to avoid a penalty. - UTSA/AP College Football

Kobe Pace ran for a career-high 191 yards and two touchdowns as Clemson won its 13th straight over No. 13 Wake Forest, delaying the Demon Deacons' run to the ACC Atlantic title with a 48-27 victory Saturday. Will Shipley gained 112 yards with two touchdowns and also threw a 2-yard jump pass TD to Davis Allen for the Tigers (8-3, 6-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who won their 34th straight at home. Clemson also kept its hopes of a seventh straight trip to the ACC title game alive with the stunning rout of Wake Forest (9-2, 6-1). The Demon Deacons entered the game averaging 44.7 points and 498 yards a game. They left with a season low in points and had only 36 yards rushing.

With time running out, chants of "Over-Rated," rang out through Death Valley, where Wake Forest has not won since 1998. Fans filled the field at the end, the school reinstating its long-held tradition it first suspended in 2020 because of the pandemic. Still, Wake Forest remains in the divisional driver's seat and can make its first championship game appearance in 15 years by beating Boston College next Saturday. For the Tigers to reach the title game, they would need Wake Forest to lose to BC and have No. 25 North Carolina lose one of its final two games. Clemson, at last, looked the part of the ACC preseason favorite as it battered Wake Forest and quarterback Sam Hartman. Hartman was sacked seven times and threw an interception. The Deacons also fumbled twice, both leading to Clemson touchdowns. Hartman finished with 312 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown with Wake trailing by 22 points. Clemson, looking to redeem itself from a struggling season, came out on fire on both sides of the ball. - Clemson/AP College Football

Jordan Travis threw for three touchdowns and 251 yards and Florida State stopped Boston College in their own territory in the final two minutes for a 26-23 victory on Saturday. A week after rallying from an eight-point deficit in the final five minutes for a victory over rival Miami, the Seminoles (5-6, 4-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) rolled to a 23-point lead before holding on to move a victory away from becoming bowl eligible. Travis completed 20-of-34 passes with no interceptions, connecting with three different receivers for scores.

Coming off his five-touchdown day last Saturday in a victory at Georgia Tech — three rushing and two throwing — BC QB Phil Jurkovec went 10 of 24 for 148 yards with a TD and one INT. He carried 17 times for 59 yards with a score. Pat Garwo III had a scoring run for the Eagles (6-5, 2-5). The Seminoles led 19-3 at halftime and scored on the initial drive of the second half when Malik McClain made a leaping grab of Travis' pass in the back of the end zone. BC then scored two TDs — failing on a two-point conversion on the first — in just over 3 ½ minutes early in the fourth, slicing it to 26-23 on Jurkovec's 36-yard TD pass to Zay Flowers. Florida State pressured, hit or sacked Jurkovec nearly every time he dropped back to pass in the opening half, limiting the Eagles to just 95 total yards. - Florida State/AP College Football
