This weekend, Utah quarterback Cam Rising has been participating in the Manning Passing Academy, a high school football camp in Thibodaux, La. founded by former NFL quarterback Archie Manning. Manning's sons, former NFL quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Eli Manning, are also on hand during during the camp. Rising has been a coach during the camp, and participated in competition with the other college quarterback coaches on Friday such as Alabama's Bryce Young.

"The quarterbacks threw 10-yard hooks, 18-yard comebacks, 18-yard digs and a deep ball to receivers. The scored portion of the throwing session was a target competition where the quarterbacks threw at moving golf carts. Each turn included two crossing routes and a vertical throw down the sideline," per On3's Charles Power. Power named the top standouts from the event, and Rising was on the list. "Cameron Rising was among the more relaxed passers in the Manning Passing Academy's high-energy setting. (Rising) didn't press and made some nice throws on the night, highlighted by a well-thrown comeback. Rising's emergence in 2021 helped lead Utah to the Rose Bowl," Power wrote. - Deseret News

North Texas linebacker KD Davis, one of the Mean Green's top players, has entered the NCAA transfer portal and is poised to leave the program. Davis posted a note on his Instagram account early Thursday afternoon indicating that he has applied to the NCAA to transfer. A UNT source confirmed to the Denton Record-Chronicle a short time later that Davis is in the portal. He took to Twitter late in the afternoon and bid farewell to UNT. "I want to thank you so much for the last 4 years of my football career and every accomplishment that has come with being a part of the team," Davis wrote. "The decision has not been easy, but I have decided to enter the transfer portal to explore my options to play at another level and show my talents in a different environment." Other programs will now be able to contact Davis, who could remove his name from the portal and return to UNT for his senior season this fall, a move that seems unlikely.

UNT removed Davis from its online roster late Thursday afternoon. The deadline for players to transfer and be eligible for the 2022 season was May 1. Davis will have to apply for a waiver from the NCAA if he transfers to another school, which would help him with the process. He has graduated from UNT. Davis has ranked among UNT's top players for the last three years and was the Mean Green's lone first-team All-Conference USA selection last season. The former Ennis standout led UNT in total tackles with 121 and tackles for loss with 13. - Denton Record

When Kamryn Babb felt the pain in his right knee, he had more reason than anyone on the planet to think, "Oh, no. Not again." The Ohio State wide receiver was blocking during a spring practice when it happened. But he was instantly reassured when the pain didn't feel the same as it did the four times - yes, four - he has torn his ACL since 2017. Babb has become an unwanted expert on such pain, and his hunch was correct. The injury was to his meniscus, and after arthroscopic surgery he has declared himself fully healthy. "It was maybe three or four weeks that I was out, but it wasn't crazy compared to what I've experienced in the past, so I'm thankful for that," Babb said Tuesday before speaking to kids at a Greater Columbus Sports Commission youth camp at KIPP Columbus.

His message to the kids, ages 6-12, was a natural one for Babb: Never give up. Babb first tore his ACL before his senior season of high school in St. Louis. Then came three more at Ohio State, including last season. His only action as a Buckeye has been on special teams in 2020. Still, his perseverance and leadership impressed his teammates so much that he was voted a captain last year. Babb credits his religious faith for helping him cope with the injuries and provide the motivation to return to the field. "I'm not strong enough within myself to be standing here and saying I'll persevere through four," he said, "because there have definitely been days where I've wanted to give up." - Columbus Dispatch

The Michigan offensive line won the Joe Moore Award as the top line in the country last season, but they lost starting center Andrew Vastardis and right tackle Andrew Stueber. On paper, with the addition of grad transfer Olu Oluwatimi, one of three finalists last year for the Rimington Award, given to the nation's top center, and with Trente Jones and Karsen Barnhart competing at right tackle, this group has big plans. "I do believe this line could easily be better than last year," Zinter said. "Our goal in the room is we're gonna be the first O line to repeat as Joe Moore Award winners. We have potential and can be better than last year. Olu is a great addition. I love V (Vastardis). V was a dog, a warrior, super smart, (but) Olu is a little younger and has the athletic ability. He's a freak. Trente or Karsen are going to have big shoes to fill, and they'll both do really well."

To have candidates to fill those shoes in the future, Zinter said he jumped at the chance when DreamUp Sports approached him with an NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) deal to host a one-day camp for kids from kindergarten through ninth grades. "I love working with kids," Zinter said. "It's fun being around them and seeing the next generation have fun out there and make football fun for them. I wish I would have had it as a kid. I'm glad to do it for them." - Detroit News

The Vols averaged 39.3 points last season to rank seventh nationally. They accomplished that with a new coaching staff, new offensive system, new quarterback and a new lead running back. Not only does UT return most of the contributors to that offense, it has added Southern Cal transfer wide receiver Bru McCoy, a former five-star recruit. McCoy and Jalin Hyatt, who impressed coaches in the spring, could give the Vols one of the top frontline receiving corps in the conference.

Combine those receivers with Hendon Hooker and it's not farfetched to think the Vols could lead the nation in scoring. UT's schedule could help. Regardless of their talent level, SEC opponents might have a better read on Tennessee's up-tempo offense. But that's not saying much. Secondaries, in particular, struggled terribly to keep up with UT receivers last season. And whatever advantage opponents gain from having studied more video could be offset by the Vols' familiarity with Heupel's system. That familiarity could enable Tennessee to average better than 40 points. - Knoxville News Sentinel

Cam Goode had played in 33 out of 36 games over the last three seasons for the Knights and likely would have contributed heavily next year, but he entered the portal in February. Goode visited Syracuse and Vanderbilt before transferring to Michigan. The 6-foot-2, 315-pound defensive tackle's 4 forced fumbles led the team, tied for second in the conference and ranked 12th in the nation last season. - Orlando Sentinel

Offensive lineman Andrew Vorhees is not just USC's most productive returning offensive lineman - he is one of the most experienced linemen in the entire nation. Returning to Los Angeles for a sixth year, he has played in 44 games through his first five seasons with the Trojans. While his age will turn some franchises off - and limit his potential as a 1-3 round prospect - Vorhees' experience is appealing if a team wants an immediate plug-and-play option with perhaps slightly less upside. His versatility is a plus, as well, as he has appeared in games at left tackle, right guard and left guard. - 247Sports.com

After so many years of FSU quarterback battles, it's got to be quite nice for that to be sorted out for the Seminoles. In his first three years at FSU, Travis has come incredibly far. The Louisville transfer didn't factor into the playing time conversation at all when he arrived. Even once he got on the field late in the 2019 season, he was used almost exclusively as a runner. But there's no denying now that Travis has grown into quite a quarterback for the Seminoles.

He's been FSU's midseason savior at quarterback each of the last two seasons, taking over three games into the 2020 season and beating out McKenzie Milton to claim the full-time job a few weeks into the 2021 season. In 2020, Travis relied more on his athleticism, rushing for a team-high 559 yards and seven touchdowns. He completed just 55% of his passes and had as many interceptions as he did passing touchdowns (6). Travis' athleticism was still a factor in 2021 and should still be in 2022. But the most promising development was the notable step forward he took as a passer. Last season, he completed 122 of 194 passes (62.9%), throwing nine more touchdowns (15) and the same number of interceptions as he did in 2020 on 63 more pass attempts. - Times Union

An injury cut TE Kyle Patterson's 2021 season short, but he's arguably the best tight end in the MWC. Coming out of high school, he turned down offers from Alabama and four Pac-12 schools to play for the Falcons. He had 12 catches for 205 yards and two TDs in five games during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, becoming the first tight end to lead the team in receiving since 2002. - Daily Camera

Chad Bailey started eight games last year for the Tigers, earning more time on the field after Jamie Pettway transferred out of the program. Bailey showed an ability to shed blocks, an area where other Missouri players struggled last season. The senior from Missouri City, Texas finished the 2021 campaign with 46 total tackles, 5.5 of them for loss. He also contributed a sack and two fumble recoveries.

Bailey is expected to maintain his starting spot on the weak side. He and Ty'Ron Hopper will be key contributors as the Tigers look to improve their overall defensive performance under new coordinator Blake Baker, formerly Missouri's safeties coach. Bailey sat out the 2022 spring game, along with several other key defensive players. - Columbia Daily Tribune

Oregon is getting a safety back from the transfer portal. Sophomore Daymon David, who entered the transfer portal in May, has chosen to return to the Ducks, according to Noles247.com. David didn't immediately respond to a message to confirm his return to UO. He had three tackles while playing in nine games last season. The Baltimore, Md. native has three years of eligibility remaining. David's return gives Oregon 87 projected scholarship players in the fall, including eight safeties. - The Oregonian

UTSA's first-team honorees include quarterback Frank Harris, wide receiver Zakhari Franklin, center Ahofitu Maka, linebacker Trevor Harmanson, safety Rashad Wisdom and punter Lucas Dean. A trio of Roadrunners landed on the second team in tight end Oscar Cardenas, offensive tackle Makai Hart and long snapper Caleb Cantrell.

UTSA has four third-team picks in wide receiver De'Corian Clark, linebacker Dadrian Taylor and cornerback Corey Mayfield Jr. Defensive tackle Brandon Brown and linebacker Jamal Ligon earned spots on the fourth team.   Boise State took home the award for Best Institutional NIL Program Monday evening, at the Inaugural NIL Awards at the College Football Hall of Fame. The NIL Awards were presented on the first night of the NIL Summit, which continues Tuesday and Wednesday. The Best Institutional NIL Program Award recognizes the college or institution that has shown exceptional commitment to supporting its student-athletes in maximizing their name, image and likeness opportunities through a combination of education, resources and industry-leading innovation.

Boise State has taken an aggressive approach to name, image and likeness, setting out to build the most student-athlete friendly NIL program in the country. The "What's Next" program is the A.C.E. up the sleeve of Bronco student-athletes, providing Advocacy, Content and Education that will allow them to maximize their NIL opportunities. One of the elements that sets Boise State apart in the industry is the Boise State NIL Agreement - a voluntary, non-exclusive agreement available to all Bronco student-athletes. Signing up allows Boise State's in-house agency to represent them, seek opportunities and include them in group licensing deals. It also gives those student-athletes access to the Boise State Athletics logo - including photos of themselves in uniform or team-issued gear - to use in approved NIL opportunities. - Lewiston Tribune

As might be expected from a veteran quarterback, WVU transfer J.T. Daniels has quickly acclimated to the Mountaineers' offensive system, coordinated by Graham Harrell. With proven productive stints at both USC and Georgia on his resume, there's not much Daniels hasn't seen from opposing defenses, and getting used to Harrell's version of the Air Raid (a bit different, but not far removed from the classic version popularized by the Hal Mumme-Mike Leach coaching tree) hasn't been a big change. Of course, Daniels played for Harrell at USC, so even the few tweaks installed by the now-WVU offensive coordinator haven't been hard to pick up, even as they morph to take advantage of West Virginia's improving stable of running backs.

Also, there's Daniels' history of learning entirely new offensive systems, which has become such a strength that he lists "processing," as his top ability as a quarterback. "I played in an NFL style in high school and in my first year at USC, then it was the Air Raid (under Harrell). Then at Georgia it was more NFL, so I have played in both and moved back and forth. I pride myself on having a high football IQ, and I've always been heavily involved in every aspect of the offense. "I learned so much from all the offensive coordinators and coaches I have had, and I have been able to transition back and forth from an NFL style to an Air Raid style a couple of times over my career," added Daniels. "I've been able to process all of those changes." - Charleston Gazette-Mail

Virginia Tech is casting a wide net to try and build an explosive offense. It's been one of the main themes of the offseason for offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen and he's welcomed all ideas from his staff. That's why Keshawn King and Chance Black found themselves working with the wide receivers towards the end of spring camp. "Both guys are explosive and quick," Tech running backs coach Stu Holt said, on Monday. "Their change of direction is very good. They catch the ball well and their hands are good. That lends to the ability to run routes and to figure out how to manipulate defensive coverage. They have that naturally."

Holt said all six of his running backs can catch the ball out of the backfield, but King and Black have a chance to establish more of a hyphenate role beyond just motioning out of the backfield into the slot. Tech's running backs combined for 33 catches and 366 yards last year with Raheem Blackshear's 25 catches for 249 yards leading the way. "They are very, very talented players," Tech receivers coach Fontel Mines said. "Offensively, you don't want guys that are that talented sitting on the sideline...We are trying to find ways to get the ball into those guys' hands." - Roanoke Times
