Last month, four-star quarterback Peter Costelli announced his decision to transfer from Utah to Troy and last weekend he officially arrived on campus and began workouts with the team. The California gunslinger provides some much-needed depth to a quarte rback position that had just two scholarship players available during the spring. "Peter is a talented athlete with a really high upside," Troy coach Jon Sumrall said. "He throws the ball well and has the ability to make plays and extend plays with his f eet. He runs well, is very intelligent and has huge growth potential. We're excited to have him as a part of our program at such a position of need." The 6-foot-3-inch, 223-pound quarterback was an Under Armour All-American in high school and the South C oast League Offensive player of the Year as a junior.After throwing for 1,992 yards and 23 touchdowns with 354 yards and four touchdowns rushing during his junior season, he wasn't able to play his senior year due to the COVID-19 pandemic causing California high schools to move the 2020 season to the spring. Costelli chose, instead, to enroll early at Utah. Costelli was also a track star in high school, finishing third in the CIF-SS Division II in the 100-meter dash. New Troy Trojans quarterback Peter Costelli will arrive on campus in June and the California gunslinger has already set some lofty goals. Costelli was a four-star dual-threat quarterback from California coming out of Mission Viejo High School and will co me to the Trojans as one of the highest rated recruits in school history. Before taking his visit to Troy's campus in recent weeks, Costelli said he had never even been to Alabama. "It was good, I got to see the campus and the area around it," Costelli s aid of his trip. "I liked it a lot. That was my first time in Alabama. It's going to get some getting used to but it's going to be a good change for me. I'm looking forward to it." The 6-foot-3-inch, 212-pounder was considered the "crown jewel" of Utah's 2021 signing class but after redshirting his freshman year there, he decided it was time for a change."It just wasn't the right fit for me," Costelli emphasized. "I love the team and everything there but it just wasn't the best fit for me." Coste lli was a big signing for Troy after the departure of former Troy quarterback Kyle Toole during spring practices and makes the quarterback competition at Troy going into the summer even more interesting as he, returning starter Gunnar Watson, redshirt fr eshman Quayde Hawkins and incoming Brantley freshman Tucker Kilcrease all compete at the position. - Troy Messenger

Ever since the end of spring, Troy football coach Jon Sumrall has said that the Trojans would be adding a quarterback to the roster this offseason and on Wednesday they landed a big one - figuratively and literally - in former Utah gunslinger Peter Coste lli. The former four-star recruit and 6-foot-3-inch, 212-pound quarterback announced his commitment to Troy on Twitter on Thursday. Costelli's comes to Troy as one of the top players to ever commit to the program. The California native entered the transf er portal following his freshman season at Utah after being Utah's top signee in the 2021 class. Costelli redshirted in 2021 and will have all four years of eligibility left at Troy.While Costelli has prototypical size and arm strength of pocket q uarterbacks, he was also one of the fastest players on the West Coast during his high school career. He was the 10th rated dual-threat quarterback in the entire country coming out of high school, according to 247 Sports. As a junior, Costelli threw for 1 ,992 yards and 23 touchdowns along with 354 yards four touchdowns rushing. He didn't play in his senior season in 2020 due to California schools pushing the 2020 season into the spring of 2021.
