  Trae Self scrambled 12 yards for the game-winning touchdown with 2:43 left to give Stephen F. Austin a 24-21 win over Abilene Christian Saturday and the Lumberjacks claimed the Western Athletic Conference championship. The Lumberjacks earned the outright conference title for the first time since 2010. Self finished 26 of 37 passing for 397 yards and two touchdowns for SFA (6-5, 3-2). The four-year starter surpassed 10,000 career passing yards in the game. Xavier Gipson had 11 catches for 213 yards and a touchdown. Gipson finished the regular season as the leading receiver in the WAC and entered the game ranked eighth in the FCS in receiving yards per game.   Trae Self threw for three touchdowns and ran for the game-winning score with 6:14 left in regulation to lift Stephen F. Austin past Southern Utah 41-38 on Saturday. Self threw three straight touchdown passes, two to Xavier Gipson from 24- and 54-yards out, in the third quarter to take a 29-15 lead. Isaiah Wooden ran for a touchdown and caught a 76-yard strike from Justin Miller to help the Thunderbirds take a 32-28 lead in the third quarter. Braedon Wissler scored from 27-yards out to give Southern Utah a 38-34 lead with under eight minutes to play. Self finished with 298 yards and three touchdowns with an interception for Stephen F.   Trae Self threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more to spark Stephen F. Austin to a 41-24 win over Tarleton in a Western Athletic Conference contest Saturday. Xavier Gipson returned a Tarleton punt 84 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and caught a 21-yard pass from Self with :35 left in the first half to give the Lumberjacks a 14-10 lead at intermission. After the Texans tied the game at 17 on a 33-yard run by Derrel Kelley III Stephen F. Austin (4-3, 1-1) scored 24 straight points to put the game away.

Self finished 16 of 25 for 253 yards passing and added scoring runs of 4 and 3 yards in the fourth quarter. Miles Reed led the Lumberjacks on the ground with 137 yards on 19 carries. Moe Wedman caught six passes for 108 yards and Gipson caught four for 93. Triumphant Olatunji picked off a pair of Tarleton passes.   Trae Self threw four touchdown passes and four Stephen F. Austin quarterbacks combined to throw for eight scores as the Lumberjacks routed NAIA-Member Warner, shutting out the Royals 98-0 on Saturday night. Warner managed just 141 yards of offense, including 114 through the air, and was forced to punt eight times. Four quarterbacks were a combined 29-of-35 passing for 478 yards for Stephen F. Austin.   Trae Self threw three touchdown passes, including an 11-yard scoring strike to Moe Wedman with 2:22 remaining, to push Stephen F. Austin past Alcorn State 31-27 in a season opener on Saturday night. Self was 18-of-30 passing for 226 yards. Jerrell Wimbley added 91 yards and a touchdown on the ground for the Lumberjacks. Jarveon Howard had 195 yards rushing on 21 carries for Alcorn State in its season opener. His 73-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter stretched the Braves' lead to 24-10 at halftime.

Jerrell Wimbley's 20-yard touchdown run for the Lumberjacks tied the game 24-24 with 3:48 left in the third. Following Self's game-winning TD pass, Alcorn State's drive stalled at its 43 when Myles Heard picked off an Aaron Allen pass. Alcorn State forced a three-and-out, but Max Quick's 47-yard punt pinned the Braves at their 5 with 39 seconds remaining and no timeouts.   Trae Self ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more as Stephen F. Austin steamrolled Lamar 42-6 in the regular season finale Saturday. The Lumberjacks, who hope for an at-large berth into the playoffs, came into the game ranked No. 22 in the FCS coaches Poll and won their fifth straight game. Self squeezed over from the 1 twice in the first quarter to put SFA up 14-0. After Bailey Giffen got the Cardinals on the board with a 32-yard field goal, Self threw a nine-yard strike to Jeremiah Miller and a 7-yard strike to Lawton Rikel. Giffen connected on a 53-yard field goal with :21 left in the first half to make it 28-6 at intermission, but Self scored his third rushing touchdown of the game on a five-yard run less than two minutes into the second half. Self was 15 of 23 for 262 yards and was picked off once for SFA (8-3, 4-2 ASUN-WAC). Lamar (1-9, 0-6) used three quarterbacks who were a collective 8 of 21 for 117 yards.   Trae Self threw three touchdown passes to Xavier Gipson and Stephen F. Austin scored the final 17 points to beat Central Arkansas 27-14 on Saturday. Self finished 18-of-31 passing for 268 yards with an interception, Gipson had six receptions for 99 yards and Miles Reed added 131 yards rushing on 32 carries for Stephen F. Austin (7-3, 3-2 ASUN/SWAC Challenge). Darius Hale scored on a 10-yard run to give Central Arkansas (5-5, 3-3) a 14-10 lead midway through the second quarter. The teams exchanged punts before the Lumberjacks used a seven-play, 73-yard drive capped by a 6-yard TD pass from Self to Gipson to take a three-point lead just before halftime. Stephen F. Austin went 75 yards on the opening drive of the second half and Gipson's 7-yard TD reception made it 24-14 with 11:12 left in the third quarter. Austin won its third straight game and handed Eastern Kentucky its first conference loss, 31-17 on Saturday.   Trae Self threw for two touchdowns and Stephen F. Austin's defense produced two touchdowns and the Lumberjacks dismantled Mississippi Valley State 58-13 on Saturday. After forcing the Delta Devils to three-and-out on the opening drive, Self threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Gipson to end a five-play, 66-yard drive. Gipson finished with 131 yards receiving on three receptions and with two scores.

On Mississippi State's following drive, Jeremiah Walker intercepted Conor Regan on third-and-nine and returned it 40 yards for a score and a 14-0 lead. The Delta Devils followed up that miscue with another when Amad Murray forced a fumble on Dederrian Williams which was recovered by Stephen F. Austin's (2-1) Chance Hill.   Trae Self passed for 235 yards with a touchdown, Miles Reed rushed for 71 yards and a score, Chris Campos kicked two field goals and Stephen F. Austin rallied to defeat Tarleton State 20-10 on Saturday night in a season opener for both teams. The Lumberjacks fell into a 10-0 hole but then scored 20 unanswered points over the final 37 minutes. Self found Xavier Gipson for a 35-yard score to make it 10-7 with 6:44 left in the first half. Campos knotted the game at 10-10 with a 22-yard field goal late in the third, added a 43-yarder in the fourth, and Reed scored from the 2.

Tarleton's Steven Duncan was 21-for-33 passing for 242 yards and a TD, but was picked off three times. Duncan put the Texans on the board early, turning a Stephen F. Austin fumble into a two-play scoring drive that lasted just 10 seconds. He capped it with a 35-yard strike to J.F. Thomas. Tarleton's Adrian Guzman added a 36-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead just 10 seconds into the second quarter. From there, the Lumberjacks gained the momentum starting with a Myles Brooks interception of Duncan, leading to Gipson's touchdown catch on the other end. Stephen F.   Tre'Jon Henderson and Jaquarion Turner each ran for two touchdowns and Stephen F. Austin beat overmatched NCAA Division II-member Western Colorado 64-7 on Saturday. Stephen F. Austin (4-3) of the Southland Conference scored five touchdowns and a field goal in the first quarter and led 37-0. Following an early punt, the Mountaineers from Gunnison, Colorado fumbled the ball away on three straight drives and threw an interception, all of which led to Stephen F. Austin scores. The Lumberjacks had four different players complete passes, and between Trae Self, Preston Weeks, Blake Short, and Josh Foskey, the group combined were 31-for-39 passing for 404 yards. Self's 16-yard scoring pass to Chad Aune in the extra session served as the game winner. Blair Zepeda's 35-yard field goal in overtime gave the Wildcats their last lead at 32-29. Stephen F. Austin (3-3, 1-0 Southland Conference) scored two touchdowns, one with 2:23 left in regulation and the other with 51 seconds left to force overtime. The Lumberjacks (1-3) opened their season with three losses to FBS teams but were up 17-0 after one quarter against the Buffaloes with a 69-yard run by Da'Leon Ward, a 28-yard reception by Xavier Gipson and a Chris Campos field goal. Self's 63-yard pass to Remi Simmons made it 24-3 after three quarters. Campos added another field goal and Jaaquarion Turner a 12-yard rushing TD in the fourth.
