  08/12/22 - CB Daryl Porter Jr.rSr/2025, Miami, 5-10, 185 (DS#18 CB) + More +

Many of the Hurricanes' new transfer arrivals came to Coral Gables from across the country, but for cornerback Daryl Porter Jr., joining the Hurricanes was a homecoming. Porter, who arrived at Miami after leaving West Virginia, is a South Florida native whose two-year stint with the Mountaineers eventually led him back to South Florida. "Happy to be home," Porter said. "Family's here. Everybody's here. Home-cooked meals. I'm just happy...It was a combination of everything. I haven't seen family in probably two years, so I feel like this is a big step for me to come back home." Before starting his college career, Porter was a standout cornerback for American Heritage, earning a three-star rating in 247Sports' composite rankings. He was a Sun Sentinel All-County first-team pick as a high-school senior.

Leaving South Florida and heading to Morgantown, West Virginia, was a new experience for Porter and one he needed to adjust to. "It's very different," Porter said. "Not really much up there. It gets very cold. But I'm just happy to be down, back in South Florida." In addition to the Hurricanes' coaching staff, Porter has another mentor he can rely on nearby: his father, Daryl Porter Sr., who played five seasons in the NFL as a defensive back. "I feel like it helps me out a lot," Porter said. "Anything I ever need, I can ask him. If someone's ever teaching me anything wrong, I make sure I double-check with him because he made it to the highest level." - Sun Sentinel
