  05/19/22 - K Mitch JeterSr/2024, South Carolina, 5-10, 197 (DS#9 K) + More +

College football teams rarely get a one-year solution to a problem, much less a five-year solution. There's too much turnover, too much that can happen game-to-game and week-to-week, to discount a star player always there, always ready to do what he does. South Carolina had that, in every season since 2017. That reliability, that production, is now relegated to a sticker on the Northwest ramp of Williams-Brice Stadium, where it will certainly face its potential replacements most likely until the end of time, since it's highly unreasonable to think anyone will ever do better. "Parker White. Career points scored. 368." For the first time in a long time, someone other than White will trot onto the field to attempt a PAT or field goal for the Gamecocks this fall.

White's gone, trying to make his NFL dream a reality, and the Gamecocks are breaking in two new kickers. "Mitch Jeter, who's got a very strong leg and is off to a good start this spring, is obviously a big part of that competition," USC special teams coordinator Pete Lembo said during spring practice. "Alex Herrera is a great guy, who's worked extremely hard, very versatile, utility-type player for us." Jeter nor Herrera is "new," as in they just showed up. Each has been on the team for a while, Herrera walking on in 2019 and Jeter a scholarship kicker signed in 2020. - The Post and Courier
