Glendon McDaniel threw for a touchdown and ran for two more, Devon Benn also had two rushing TDs, and Southern beat Division II Miles College 41-24 on Saturday night. Jason Collins, in his first year as Southern's head coach, got his first career win. Do nte Edwards scored on a 22-yard run gave Miles College a 24-20 with 1:24 left in the third quarter but, two plays from scrimmage later, Craig Nelson took a handoff and ran 68 yards for a score to put Southern (1-1) in front for good. McDaniel hit Marquis McClain for a 39-yard touchdown early in the fourth and then scored on a 5-yard run to cap the scoring with 7:25 remaining. Claude Newell III was 15-of-22 passing for 194 yards and a touchdown for Miles College. Edwards finished with 16 carries for 67 y ards. - AP College Football

OCT 21 SWAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Southern's Glendon McDaniel (6-2, 200, R-So., QB, Dothan, Ala.),...McDaniel threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns during Southern's 28-21 win over Texas Southern in the State Fair Showdown in Dallas, Texas on Saturday. He was 17-for-26 passing with no interceptions. He had a long pass of 35 yards and also contributed 19 yards rushing the ball for the Jaguars. - Southwestern Athletic Conference Football

Glendon McDaniel threw three touchdown passes, two of them in a decisive third quarter, and Southern defeated Texas Southern in the State Fair Showdown on Saturday. After the score was tied at 7 at halftime, McDaniel connected with Jamar Washington for 3 5 yards and Hunter Register for 31 yards and a 21-7 Jaguars lead heading into the fourth quarter. Texas Southern's Devin Williams scored on a 14-yard run before McDaniel's 7-yard TD pass to Jordan Davis put Southern ahead by 14 again, 28-14.A 4-ya rd run by Williams closed out the scoring with 5:57 to go. The Tigers fumbled at the Jaguars 26 on their only remaining possession and Jordan Williams recovered for Southern. Williams was 29-of-44 passing for 335 yards with two rushing touchdowns for the Tigers (0-7, 0-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference). McDaniel was 17 of 26 for 252 yards for the Jaguars (4-3, 3-0). The teams combined for 1,005 yards of offense, 516 for Texas Southern and 489 for Southern. - AP College Football
