Although loaded with returnees at the position already, UL has added another experienced receiver to the arsenal for quarterback Levi Lewis. The Ragin' Cajuns have made Alabama State transfer Michael Jefferson a late member of their 2021 signing class, c oach Billy Napier said Wednesday. Jefferson - a product of Murphy High in Mobile, Alabama - reported this week along with other players for the start of summer of workouts. All players reported as expected, according to Napier. Jefferson played three sea sons at Alabama State, an FCS program in the SWAC. "He's got a lot of height and length," Napier said. "He's been very productive. He's not only a good receiver, but a good special teams player." Jefferson had a team-leading 24 catches 234 yards and two touchdowns in five games when the Hornets played an abbreviated schedule in the spring of 2021 because of COVID-19. - Daily Advertiser

2021 ALL-SWAC PRESEASON SECOND TEAM (COACHES): WR Michael Jefferson, Junior, Alabama State,...Jefferson finished the year with 49 receptions for 767 yards and 12 touchdowns. The junior recorded a pair of games with three touchdown receptions in each. He also averaged 15.65 yards per reception with a long of 82 yards. SEPT 9/WEEK 2 SWAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Alabama State, Michael Jefferson (6-3, WR, 194, So., Mobile, Ala.),...Jefferson had a career day for Alabama State in a 38-31 victory over Tuskegee Saturday night. He grabbed five receptions for 174 yards, including three touchdowns. The sophomore caught touchdown passes of 19, 43 and the game-winning 82-yard reception in the fourth quarter. For his efforts, Jefferson was rewarded with a helmet sticker on College Football Live. - SWAC Football
