Trained at ProKick Australia in Melbourne under coach Nathan Chapman. Dean (6-2, 205) enrolled at UTSA in Spring 2019 and won the starting job as punter for his true freshman campaign … averaged 40.8 yards on 65 punts … booted 12 punts of 50-or-more yards … pinned opponents inside their 20-yard line 16 times … induced 28 fair catches … averaged 43.0 yards on eight punts with two sailing 50-plus yards, including a season-long 56-yarder. In 2020 he was named a second-team All-American by the Sporting News and was a fourth-team selection by Phil Steele.

  2021 ALL-CONFERENCE USA SECOND TEAM (COACHES): P: Lucas Dean, Jr., UTSA,...Dean is enjoying another stellar season as UTSA's punter, averaging 45.4 yards on 44 punts with 10 sailing 50-plus yards, and his average would rank third in the league if he had enough punts to meet the minimum. The All-American has pinned opponents inside their 20-yard line 20 times and 12 punts have resulted in a fair catch with only two going for a touchback.   The preseason honors for UTSA continue to roll in, as Lucas Dean has been named to the Ray Guy Award Preseason Watch List and Hunter Duplessis has earned a place on the preseason watch list for the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award. Both Roadrunners were semifinalists for the respective awards last season after helping lead UTSA to a 7-5 record and the program's second bowl appearance.

Dean is one of 51 FBS players, including one of six from Conference USA, on the preseason watch list for the Ray Guy Award, which is awarded annually to the nation's top collegiate punter. The reigning C-USA Special Teams Player of the Year and a first-team all-conference honoree, Dean earned second-team All-America accolades from the Sporting News and he was Phil Steele's fourth-team All-America punter after a record-setting campaign in 2020. The reigning C-USA Special Teams Player of the Year and a first-team all-conference honoree, Dean earned second-team All-America accolades from the Sporting News and he was Phil Steele's fourth-team All-America punter after a record-setting campaign in 2020. He has logged 27 punts inside the 20-yard line, including 15 inside the 10 and seven inside the 5, and he owns 21 punts of 50-plus yards, including a career-best 67-yarder at FAU. Dean has averaged 45.0-plus yards in eight games this year and of his 55 punts this fall, 39 have not been returned.
