Another transfer from the Pac-12, Cal transplant Makai Polk is a 6-3, 200-pound pass catcher. In 17 games across the last two seasons, Polk caught 36 passes for 478 yards and three touchdowns. At the very least, he's depth for a talented receiver group. At the most, he's a plug-and-play receiver who helps Mississippi State attack downfield more than it could last year. - The Clarion Ledger

Cal football lost a key player to the transfer portal Sunday as sophomore receiver Makai Polk announced his commitment to Mississippi State. The move came as a surprise - Polk firmly established himself as one of the Bears' top receivers over the course of the shortened 2020 season. The wideout earned praise and attention and was a consistent deep threat that Cal's offense desperately needed. Over the course of the previous offseason, Polk added weight and elevated his game, evolving into a more dynamic target for quarterback Chase Garbers. Polk accumulated 478 yards and three touchdown passes after 17 games with the blue and gold and was primed to be an important member of the team's offense for years to come. - Daily Californian

After just two seasons with the Bears, sophomore receiver Makai Polk entered the transfer portal despite a breakout 2020 season. Should Polk decide to transfer, his presence will be sorely missed. Polk ranked behind only Kekoa Crawford in receiving yards this season, racking up 183 yards and a touchdown over the season's four games. He had multiple receptions in every contest this season and, between the end of the 2019 season and now, emerged as a deep target for quarterback Chase Garbers. Polk had the Bears' longest reception of the season, a 52-yard bomb against Oregon State, and filled out his lanky, 6'3" frame over the offseason to become a bigger, more physical threat on the outside. That came after a career-best 105-yard performance at the 2019 Redbox Bowl to end his freshman season. - Daily Californian
