2023 ALL-BIG TEN FIRST TEAM: OT LaDarius Henderson, Michigan,...Henderson (tackle) and Loveland (tight end) were both picked as first-team honorees by the coaches and were second-team selections by the media. Together, the offensive line permits 1.17 sacks per game (13th), the lowest rate in the Big Ten, along with its top-five national rate in TFLs allowed. They block for the nation's top scorer in Corum and support a run game that averages 4.4 team-wide yards per carry. - Michigan Football

Michigan has won back-to-back Joe Moore Awards given to the nation's top offensive line and got a huge boost last season from the transfer portal when Olu Oluwatimi arrived from Virginia and went on to win the Rimington Award as the nation's top center and the Outland as the top interior lineman. The line helped Michigan's run game rank No. 5 nationally in rushing last season averaging 238.9 yards a game, and several starters from that line return - guards Trevor Keegan and Zak Zinter, who both strongly considered leaving for the NFL, and right tackles Karsen Barnhart and Trente Jones, who both made starts.

Michigan went to the portal again and added experience in LaDarius Henderson (Arizona State), who likely will replace Ryan Hayes at left tackle; Drake Nugent (Stanford), who is penciled in at center; and Myles Hinton, also from Stanford. They will get significant work in the spring as they adjust to the offense and expect the backups to also get plenty of reps, while Keegan, Zinter, Barnhart and Jones use the time to hone their skills. This will be the first spring that offensive line coach Sherrone Moore will be the offensive coordinator after spend the last two seasons as co-coordinator. - Detroit News

Offensive lineman LaDarius Henderson's goal all along was to declare for the NFL Draft after this season, but injuries have a way of altering plans and destinations. Henderson, an Arizona State captain this fall, missed the final six games because of a painful tendon injury in his left ring finger that froze it in a pointed down position and required surgery. The NFL took a back seat while he determined his next move. That involved the NCAA transfer portal, and after immediate interest from a couple of teams once he entered his name, Henderson called Michigan's Sherrone Moore, co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach, to gauge interest. After all, Moore had coached the group to the Joe Moore Award last season as the nation's top offensive line and a finalist this year and had secured the transfer commitment before this season from center Olu Oluwatimi. Oluwatimi this month became a consensus All-America selection who won the Rimington Award as the nation's top center and the Outland Trophy as the best interior lineman.

With the Wolverines on board, Henderson committed earlier this month and will compete for a starting job after enrolling next month. "In my mind, Michigan is O-Line U," Henderson told The Detroit News in a phone interview this week. "They have a good chance they might win the Joe Moore again this year. Olu transferred and had a great amount of success, and I really love what they do with their offense and what Coach Sherrone does there. So, I knew that if I had the opportunity to talk to these guys once I entered the portal, I was gonna reach out. "I reached out before I even gave them the chance to, and I'm glad I did, because once they were seemingly all-in on me, I'm like, 'Hey, I know what you guys are about, I love the culture here, I love what you guys do you and I would love to be part of it." The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Henderson started 13 games in 2021 at left guard, but he's played tackle, as well. He started 29 games over three seasons. - Detroit News

Michigan has dipped into the NCAA transfer portal again to add a veteran offensive lineman to the 2023 roster. Arizona State's LaDarius Henderson announced Tuesday he is signing with the Wolverines a day after he entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal. Entering this season, Michigan added Virginia graduate transfer Olu Oluwatimi, one of three finalists for the Rimington Award given to the nation's top center. Henderson, who has one year of eligibility, reportedly accepted an invitation to the East-West Shrine game, suggesting he would leave college football to prepare for the NFL Draft.

He announced his decision to transfer to Michigan with a social media post that included a photo of him with Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, co-offensive coordinators Matt Weiss and Sherrone Moore, who also coaches the offensive line, and tight ends coach Grant Newsome. "After much prayer and thought, I will be spending the last chapter of my college journey at The University of Michigan! GO BLUE!" wrote Henderson, who has not returned a request for comment. Henderson, who will turn 21 next week, was a three-star recruit from Waxahachie, Texas. He started 29 games during the last three seasons at Arizona State and was a captain this season. He missed the last six games after suffering a broken hand in October. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Henderson has played left tackle and left guard. - Detroit News
