Data Scout Notes: 2020: NAC...Transfer from Alabama

 Jerome Ford, Cincinnati, Player News

  04/19/21 - RB Jerome FordrJr/2023, Cincinnati, 5-10, 215 (DS#22 RB) + More +

Ford is entering his second season with the Bearcats after transferring from Alabama. The 5-foot-11, 215-pound Tampa, Florida, native had the most productive year of his college career in 2020, rushing for 483 yards and eight touchdowns. Ford is presumably in the driver's seat for the No. 1 running back spot, especially while Charles McClelland continues to work his way back from his second torn ACL in 14 months. "I feel like personally and as a group (running backs), we really want to be able to help the team -- not just the offense, special teams -- in any way possible," Ford said. "Whatever we can do, whether it be running the ball, blocking, running down on kickoff, catching the ball. We just want to be able to help the team." - Cincinnati Enquirer

Michael Warren II will not be easy to replace in the backfield, not just because of his talent but also coach Luke Fickell routinely said Warren provided energy and a personality that helped set the tone for the entire program. Senior Gerrid Doaks is a known commodity, but the addition of 5-foot-11, 212-pound Alabama transfer Jerome Ford, a former four-star recruit, upgrades the talent level at the position. "I think his ability in the weight room and some of those things, we've seen in this short amount of time," Fickell said. "I think we'll see more when we get the pads on. We knew him a lot out of high school, which is a great thing."

Ford, who is immediately eligible and can play three seasons at UC, rushed 31 times for 151 yards (4.9 yards per) and three touchdowns in eight career games for the Crimson Tide. "It's a great example to our guys, too," Fickell said. "He's a guy that's come in, he's going to have a lot of talent but he's still got to be who we are. That's going to be the biggest transition. The transition is not going to be carrying the football and what he can do. The transition is, can he figure out all those little things and expectations that we have? Not that he didn't have them (at Alabama), but every place is a little bit different." - Cincinnati Enquirer
