TCU wide receiver Derius Davis declares for 2023 NFL draft...Davis thrived as a kick and punt returner for the Frogs in 2022, winning Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year. He's scored a touchdown in four different ways: rushing, receiving, punt returning and kick returning. Davis finished his collegiate career with five punt return touchdowns, the most among active FBS players. Against Texas Tech on Nov. 5, Davis broke KaVontae Turpin's program record with a 82-yard punt return.

As a receiver, Davis tallied nine touchdown receptions and 1,513 yards in his career as a Frog. His greatest tool was his speed; the Horned Frog receiver reached 23.47 miles per hour against SMU, a number that tops most NFL receivers. Speed isn't his only asset; Davis, with a 5-10, 175 pound frame, can bench squat 550 pounds and bench 370. - Dallas Morning News

NOV 7 BIG 12 SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Derius Davis, TCU, WR/PR/KR, Sr.,...Davis took his first punt return attempt of the game 82 yards for a touchdown to give TCU an early lead in its 34-24 win over Texas Tech. It was the senior's fifth career punt return TD, which set the program record. Davis now has six career special teams scores to tie the all-time mark. The 82-yard return was the seventh-longest in TCU history. Davis also had three receptions in the game, including a 23-yarder for a TD. - Big 12 Football

Derius Davis returned the first punt 82 yards for a touchdown, Kendre Miller ran for the go-ahead score early in the fourth quarter and No. 7 TCU pulled away in a 34-24 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday. Davis caught one of Max Duggan's two fourth-quarter TD passes as the Horned Frogs reached 9-0 for the first time since 2010, a 13-0 season that ended with a Rose Bowl victory and No. 2 national ranking. The previous perfect run for TCU (6-0 in Big 12 this season) came in the Mountain West Conference and was before the College Football Playoff. The nine-game winning streak is the longest since the Horned Frogs won 16 straight over the 2014-15 seasons. In 2014, one-loss TCU had joined the Big 12 but was left out of the first four-team CFP.

The Red Raiders (4-5, 2-4) went ahead 17-13 in the third quarter on Tyler Shough's 33-yard touchdown pass to J.J. Sparkman, but ended up falling to 2-4 against ranked teams in coach Joey McGuire's first season. Defensive standout Tyree Wilson made the first big play for Texas Tech with a fourth-down tackle for loss when TCU was driving up 7-0 after Darius' return up the right sideline and back toward the middle. Wilson, though, sparked the Horned Frogs' go-ahead drive with a facemask penalty when his sack of Duggan would have put TCU in third and long. A pass interference penalty in the end zone put the ball at the 2-yard line, and Miller extended his rushing TD streak to 10 games on the next play for a 20-17 lead. Miller surpassed 100 yards rushing for the sixth time in seven games, finishing with a season-high 158 yards on 21 carries. Duggan was 12 of 23 for 195 yards without an interception, giving him 24 TDs and two picks. The Red Raiders started 3 of 3 on fourth down, but failed on consecutive possessions in their territory after Miller's TD, setting up Duggan's 23-yard scoring pass to Davis and a 16-yarder to Emari Demercado. - TCU/AP College Football

SEPT 5 BIG 12 SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Derius Davis, TCU, WR/PR/KR, Sr.,...Davis changed the game's momentum with his 60-yard punt return for a touchdown in TCU's 38-13 win at Colorado. Trailing 3-0 at the time, TCU used the senior's return to take a lead it would not relinquish. Davis tied TCU's program record with his fourth career punt return for a touchdown. He totaled 72 punt return yards in the game while adding a 27-yard rushing touchdown and two receptions for 25 yards. - Big 12 Football

Derius Davis scored on a 60-yard punt return and a 27-yard reverse to help TCU open the Sonny Dykes era with a 38-13 win over Colorado on Friday night. Dykes took over for longtime TCU coach Gary Patterson after spending the last four seasons at SMU, where he revived the program. Maybe it was the delayed start - about 35 minutes due to lightning in the area - but the Horned Frogs couldn’t get much going early. Once they did, the Buffaloes couldn’t stop their speed. The Horned Frogs outscored Colorado 31-7 after halftime to turn a close game into a rout. The Buffaloes entered the game on their home turf as a 13 1/2-point underdog, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Davis ignited a sluggish TCU squad early in the second quarter by fielding a punt, finding room around the edge and sprinting down the sideline for his fourth career punt-return touchdown. That ties KaVontae Turpin for the most in school history. Davis scored in the fourth quarter on a trick play to make it 31-6 and seal the win. - TCU/AP College Football

2022 PRESEASON PAUL HORNUNG AWARD WATCH LIST: Derius Davis, TCU,...Davis topped TCU last season with 36 receptions, while his 518 receiving yards placed second. He averaged 10.2 yards on punt returns and 29.6 yards on kickoff returns, including taking the game's opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown versus West Virginia. It was his fourth career special teams score. His three career punt returns for touchdowns are tied for second in TCU history, just one behind KaVontae Turpin (4, 2015-18) for the lead. - TCU Football

TCU's Derius Davis became the 10th FBS player to return a kick 100 yards, doing it on the opening kickoff against West Virginia. It was Davis' first kick return for a touchdown. He has run back four punts for TDs, which is tied for second in program history. His kick return was the Horned Frogs' first for a touchdown since KaVontae Turpin went 99 yards against Oklahoma in 2018. It was the Frogs' first TD on an opening kickoff since at least 1996. - AP College Football

Davis was already a breakout candidate in 2020 and will continue to do damage in 2021. The junior had three touchdowns recorded on the season -- one receiving and two returns. Davis stepped in as the primary returner after JD Spielman was benched due to injury but with his success, could keep the starting role in 2021. - Dallas Morning News

Derius Davis exploded in 2020 and stepped into the role of the Frogs' go-to punt returner after Nebraska transfer J.D. Spielman suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. Davis finished the season with 218 punt return yards and an average of 14.53 yards per return and two touchdowns. The speedster, who ran the fifth fastest 400m time in the nation in high school while at West Feliciana, has a punt return touchdown in two of his three years at TCU - with the other coming his freshman year. TCU head coach Gary Patterson said Davis is already a standout for the 2021 season after the start of spring practice. Davis finished the season with the third most receiving yards for the Frogs with 209 behind Quentin Johnston and Taye Barber. - Dallas Morning News

Derius Davis returned a punt 67 yards for a touchdown, freshman Darwin Barlow ran for 117 yards with a touchdown and TCU built a big lead on way to a 33-23 win over Baylor on Saturday. Zach Evans, a true freshman who was TCU's first five-star signee, took an inside handoff for a 30-yard touchdown and his first collegiate touchdown. The Horned Frogs (2-3, 2-3 Big 12) jumped out to a 30-0 lead early in the second quarter. Their defense had five sacks, equaling their total of the first four games. Baylor (1-3, 1-3) played its first game in three weeks, following an open date and then the postponement of its home game against No. 6 Oklahoma State because of positive COVID-19 tests in the Bears program. That led to a weeklong pause of all football activity in their program. Davis fielded the ball, moved parallel to the left around blockers and then burst through a gap into the open near midfield about midway through the first quarter to make it 14-0. TCU then got the ball back when La'Kendrick Van Zandt got an interception when he jumped in front of tight end Ben Sims along the sideline and managed to keep a foot in bounds. - AP College Football
