  With the health and well-being of its student-athletes as its top priority, the Big South Conference announced today it is delaying its fall sports seasons with the intent of playing in the spring. This includes the sports of men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball. Additionally, fall competitions in the sports of men's and women's golf and men's and women's tennis, and out of season competitions in spring sports have been suspended as well. The Big South Football Members voted to allow up to four non-conference games in the fall at institutional discretion. - Big South Conference

  For the fourth consecutive year, Kennesaw State University has been tabbed the favorite in the Big South conference's annual preseason football poll for the 2020 campaign as voted by the league's head coaches and media panel, it was announced today. The Owls collected eight of the 12 first-place votes and finished with 68 points to become just the second team to earn the league's top preseason ranking four-straight years. Kennesaw State, which reached the FCS Second Round as an at-large qualifier last season and was ranked No. 8/13 in the final polls, returns 45 letterwinners, 18 starters and six All-Conference players. KSU went 11-3 last season (5-1 in the Big South) and ranked first in the nation in rushing offense with 342.4 yards per game while ranking fifth in the country with a Big South single-season record 88.4 rushing yards allowed. - Big South Football

  Kennesaw State coach Brian Bohannon and five of his players landed spots on the Big South Conference All-Decade team. The team, announced Monday afternoon, was selected primarily from a vote of conference administrators, with 20 percent of the votes cast by fans. Quarterback Chandler Burks (2015-18), linebackers Bryson Armstrong (2017-present) and Anthony Gore (2015-18), defensive lineman Desmond Johnson (2016-19) and placekicker Justin Thompson (2015-18) joined Bohannon among the players and coaches. - Marietta Daily Journal

  2019 AFCA FCS COACHES' SECOND TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: LB Bryson Armstrong, Jr., Kennesaw St.,...The Marietta, Ga., native guided the No. 4 defense in the country with 95 tackles. He earned the 2019 Big South Defensive Player of the Year award after adding 12.0 tackles-for-loss, 3.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and an interception to his tab. The 2017 Jerry Rice Award winner made a massive impact in the Owls' two postseason games this season, turning in double-digit tackles in each contest. Against Wofford, he forced a fumble in the fourth quarter that turned the momentum in the Owls' favor that eventually propelled Kennesaw State into the second round of the FCS Playoffs.

In addition to the double-digit tackles games in each playoff game, Armstrong collected 13 tackles at Missouri State, 12 against Charleston Southern and 10 versus North Alabama. Against the Lions, the junior lived in the North Alabama backfield and collected 2.5 tackles-for-loss, his season high. His sole interception came against Campbell, where he returned the turnover for 11 yards en route to a 38-35 win.   2019 BIG SOUTH DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Bryson Armstrong, LB, R-Jr., Kennesaw State,...Armstrong is the second consecutive Kennesaw State player to be voted the conference's Defensive Player of the Year. A finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award as the nation's top defensive player, Armstrong recorded a team-high 73 total tackles during the regular-season -- including 44 solo stops. A member of the nation's fifth-ranked defense, Armstrong has totaled 10.5 tackles-for-loss, 2.5 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery this season. He has helped the Owls lead the Big South in total defense (277.8), scoring defense (17.9) and rushing defense (90.8).

Armstrong was the conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 28 following his 10-tackle, 2.5-TFL, 1.0-sack effort over North Alabama. He led KSU in tackles five times - including three games with 10+, and his 73 stops are 28 more than his next-closest teammate. Armstrong also recorded a tackle-for-loss in eight of his 11 games played. Armstrong received six first-place votes and 19 points in the voting to edge out Presbyterian College linebacker Colby Campbell (16 points and seven first-place votes) and Monmouth linebacker Da'Quan Grimes (13 points and three first-place votes) for the defensive honor. - Big South Football

  OCT 28 BIG SOUTH DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kennesaw State linebacker Bryson Armstrong (Marietta, Ga.) tallied 10 tackles (eight solo, two assisted), 2.5 tackles-for-loss and one sack in Kennesaw State's 41-17 win over North Alabama.   2019 PRESEASON BIG SOUTH DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR (COACHES/MEDIA): Bryson Armstrong, R-Jr., LB, Kennesaw State (Marietta, Ga.),...Armstrong is a back-to-back recipient of the conference's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year honor. A two-time First-Team All-Conference selection in his first two years at KSU, Armstrong tied for eighth in the Big South last season with 75 total tackles -- 56 of which were solo stops (second-most in the league).

He finished the campaign with 10.0 tackles-for-loss (minus-28 yards) as well as 2.5 sacks, three passes defended and three quarterback hurries. In Big South games, he totaled 25 hits (21 solo) and helped the Owls limit Big South opponents to just 8.2 points per game and 185.0 yards of offense.

Armstrong posted nine tackles in a game three times in 2018 -- in the season opener at Georgia State plus victories over Samford and Charleston Southern. He recorded the game-winning interception in the end zone in Kennesaw State's five-overtime triumph over No. 6/7 Jacksonville State at SunTrust Park on Nov. 17. - Big South Football
