Marcus Williams Jr. ran for four touchdowns, Aaron Allen passed for two scores, and Louisiana Tech broke a five-game losing streak by defeating Charlotte 42-32 on Saturday night. Williams had 29 carries for 131 yards and Allen completed 21 of 27 passes for 324 yards for the Bulldogs (3-7, 2-4 Conference USA). Louisiana Tech led by at least two scores throughout the second half, but Charlotte made it interesting. The 49ers drew within 42-32 when Chris Reynolds hit Jr. Keith Pearson with a 21-yard pass with 8:44 remaining in the fourth. Charlotte had two more possessions but turned it over on downs on the first and time ran out on the second. Reynolds completed 25 of 42 passes for 448 yards and two touchdowns for the 49ers (5-5, 2-3). Pearson caught six passes for 150 yards with two touchdowns. Charlotte had a 548-504 advantage in total yards. - AP College Football

Marcus Williams Jr. ran for two touchdowns in the first quarter, including a 42-yard dash to make it 14-0, and Louisiana Tech dashed to a 24-point first-half lead and made it stand up for a 24-17 win over North Texas in the Bulldogs' Conference USA opener Saturday. J.D. Head tossed a 34-yard touchdown pass to Samuel Emilus and Jacob Barnes kicked a 21-yard field goal to make it 24-0 with more than 10 minutes left in the first half and the Louisiana Tech defense took over from there.

North Texas (1-3, 0-2) got a touchdown by DeAndre Torrey just before intermission. Ethan Mooney kicked a 33-yard field goal and Austin Aune tossed an eight-yard touchdown pass to Damon Ward Jr. late in the fourth quarter, but the Mean Green could not find the equalizing touchdown. Aaron Allen was 14 of 18 passing for 137 yards and Louisiana Tech (2-2, 1-0) managed just 81 rushing yards, led by Williams' 73 on 17 carries. Torrey carried 26 times for 119 yards to lead North Texas. - Louisiana Tech/AP College Football

After some issues securing the football, Marcus Williams Jr. put together a flawless performance. The senior running back had 103 yards, a total that included his 48-yard touchdown on which he split through a big hole then shook off tackles. Williams had a 39-yard run against Arkansas State a week ago. What looked like a breakaway touchdown became a turnover as a defender knocked the ball loose from behind. And in the season opener against Charlotte on Sept. 12, Williams Jr. lost the ball on a run in front of the end zone. Clark said Williams refocused his efforts this week on protecting the football. "He had a great week of practice, and that's what I told him," Clark said. "I said you're not practicing like you have in the past and it's showing up on the field. And he came back and really busted his tail this week. "I'm so proud of the way he came back and responded." - Winston-Salem Journal

Darrynton Evans is the Mountaineers go-to running back, but don't overlook Marcus Williams who ran for a team-high 94 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries last week against South Alabama. He may have played his way into a more significant role on offense after that performance. "Marcus was the offensive MVP" last week, Drinkwitz said. "Provided a really nice spark, had two explosive run and the touchdown." - AP College Football
