UNC head coach Mack Brown gave a glowing assessment of Florida State's Tamorrion Terry on Wednesday morning: "the best wide receiver we've seen so far" through four conference games. And that's for good reason. Terry, a 6-foot-4 junior, logged a 1,000-yard, nine-touchdown season for FSU last year. And he's stayed hot in 2020, with a team-high 21 catches for 275 yards and a touchdown. Last week, against then-No. 5 Notre Dame, he went for a season-best nine catches and 146 yards. Now, though, the struggling Seminoles will be without their top offensive threat against the Tar Heels.

On Wednesday afternoon, news broke that Terry will get knee surgery this week to fix a swelling issue. He'll miss at least a few games, including Saturday's against North Carolina. The star wide receiver confirmed the news on his Twitter account Wednesday night, writing: "Send ya prayers." Terry's absence puts Florida State in a bind. Tight end Camren McDonald (12 catches for 127 yards) and wide receiver Ontaria Wilson (13 for 124) will see natural bumps in usage, but FSU doesn't have much depth behind those two. No other Seminole receiver has more than five catches or 58 yards this season. - Raleigh News Observer

Florida State receiver Tamorrion Terry was visibly frustrated as he stood on the sideline and watched the Seminoles get embarrassed at Miami two Saturday ago. Terry played only 14 snaps in the game and his appearance was counterproductive. He had no receptions and one rushing attempt for a loss of four yards. The second-team All-ACC player has been one of the more reliable receivers on the wide receiver core, but was limited earlier in the season against Miami after an injury that he suffered in the first game of the season against Georgia Tech. If that wasn't enough, Terry's grandmother passed away the day before the Georgia Tech game. Battling through adversity has been the staple for this year's Florida State team, and Terry is a prime example of head coach Mike Norvell's philosophy. The redshirt junior stepped up in a big way in the Seminoles' 41-24 win over visiting Jacksonville State University last Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium.

"Responding in a positive way when adversity strikes is for everyone, not just Terry. Obviously you can point to a lot of different examples so far in a short season when we have and we have not responded in the right way," Norvell said. "To be able to acknowledge that, and more important to be able to change that...but to always be in control of that emotion and that response, that's what's important. Because it allows you to stay focused on the job at-hand, it allows you when you are down 21-7 to make sure you're putting guys and yourself in the best position possible to go out there and achieve success on the next play." - Times Union

Florida State receivers coach Ron Dugans isn't asking his players to do anything he hasn't done himself. As a standout receiver with the Seminoles, Dugans was a member of a team that won 55 games between 1995-99, capped with a national championship in 1999. His 1,520 receiving yards ranks him among the top 35 FSU receivers on the school's career list. Dugans knows how to fight to make plays at a high level and expects the same effort from this year's group of FSU receivers. "I want these guys to compete like I used to compete," Dugans said. "These guys are taking to that and helping each other out and competing their butts off and wanting to be the best and wanting to get better daily."

FSU returns three starters from last season, led by junior wideout Tamorrion Terry, who became the first Seminole to earn more than 1,000 receiving yards in a season since Rashad Greene in 2014. His 20.3 yards per reception career average is the highest in school history. For Terry, the decision to return for another year rather than opt out was simple. "I came back for a reason and that reason was not to be average," Terry said at the start of fall camp earlier this month. "I want to be great. I came back and I told coach [Mike] Norvell the reason I came back was to win ball games and help the team out, and I know we can turn this around. So why opt-out?" - Orlando Sentinel

2019 PRESEASON BILETNIKOFF AWARD WATCH LIST: Tamorrion Terry, Florida State,...Terry, who represented FSU at Wednesday’s ACC Kickoff event, burst onto the scene as a redshirt freshman last season, leading the team with an FSU freshman-record 744 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 35 receptions to become only the fourth freshman in program history to lead FSU in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.

The Ashburn, Georgia, native was the first Seminole with two 70-yard touchdown catches in a season since Peter Warrick in 1998, and that total ranks first in the NCAA among 2019 returners. He also ranks third in the nation among returners with a 21.3 yards-per-reception average and 39.1 yards-per-touchdown reception average and sixth in catches-per-touchdown ratio with a score every 4.375 catches last season. - Florida State Football
