 Brant Kuithe, Utah, Player News

  06/03/21 - TE Brant KuitheSr/2022, Utah, 6-2, 230 (DS#22 TE) + More +

No one would have batted an eyelash if Brant Kuithe opted to leave the University of Utah following the 2020 season. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound tight end had a team-best 25 catches for 236 yards, while leading all Pac-12 tight ends in receptions per game (5.0). He has led the team in catches among tight ends in each of his three seasons, the last two of which have yielded All-Pac-12 second-team honors. In 33 career games, Kuithe has 79 catches for 1,065 yards and seven touchdowns. Kuithe has clearly been on an NFL track for at least the two seasons, so no, no one would have even shrugged if Kuithe opted against one more college season and instead entered the NFL draft. The thing is, a truncated, COVID-impacted, five-game season last fall was not enough for Kuithe to go out on, so he didn't. "I had a decent season, but we only won three games," Kuithe said during spring practice in early April, roughly three months after the Katy, Texas, native announced on New Year's Day that he would return for the 2021 season. "We haven't won a Pac-12 championship. That's most important goal. Every single year, we fall short of it. I came here to win that." - Salt Lake Tribune

  04/10/21 - TE Brant KuitheSr/2022, Utah, 6-2, 230 (DS#22 TE) + More +

Whoever winds up as the starting quarterback at the University of Utah, whether it be Charlie Brewer, Cameron Rising, or Ja'Quinden Jackson, there is some question right now as to who that person will throw to this fall. The Utes are thin at wide receiver, a problem coach Kyle Whittingham has addressed numerous times in the last two months in the wake of Bryan Thompson and Samson Nacua transferring. Whittingham has made clear he will hit the NCAA Transfer Portal in the time between spring practice ending and fall camp beginning, so for now, wide receiver is a significant question mark for the program. As far as pass-catching options go, that's the bad news. The good news, though, is two-folded. One, Utah likes to utilize the tight end position. Two, there are no questions at Utah about tight ends like there are about wide receivers.

Two-time All-Pac-12 tight end Brant Kuithe is back as a junior. Another veteran pass-catching option returns in junior Cole Fotheringham, and still, there is a third legitimate option in junior Dalton Kincaid, an FCS All-American as a sophomore in 2019 at the University of San Diego. "We have playmakers," Kuithe said this week a Zoom call with reporters. "Dalton is doing well this spring and I think next year, it's going to be a different story. He wasn't involved much last year, and only getting five games, the play was a little erratic. Getting a full slate of games, I think the tight end group is going to be really solid." - Salt Lake Tribune

  07/06/20 - TE Brant KuitheSr/2022, Utah, 6-2, 230 (DS#22 TE) + More +

The bad news for the University of Utah is that once mandatory summer activities and training camp begin, coaches still need to figure out who the starting quarterback will be. The good news is, whether it's South Carolina graduate transfer Jake Bentley or redshirt sophomore Cameron Rising, that signal caller is going to have more than a fair amount of pass-catching options. Entering the 2020 season, the Utes return seven players who caught at least 10 passes last season. Chief among them is junior tight end Brant Kuithe, whose emergence in the second half of the season was a revelation. His 34 catches for 602 yards and 6 touchdowns as a sophomore mark him as one of, if not the top returning tight end in the Pac-12. Utah possesses a second starting-caliber tight end thanks to junior Cole Fotheringham (16 catches, 156 yards, 1 TD). - Salt Lake Tribune
