This victory marked Texas' second c onsecutive top-10 road win, following their triumph over No. 3 Alabama last season. Ewers has now won eight straight true road games since 2022, throwing 15 touchdowns with just one interception. Quinn Ewers passed for 260 yards and three touchdowns and No. 4 Texas rolled past Colorado State 52-0 on Saturday in the opener for both teams. Ewers connected with Matthew Golden for a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter, and had another strike to Isaiah Bond as the Longhorns built a 31-0 lead by halftime. A big question for Texas heading into this season was just how quickly Ewers and Texas would find their rhythm in a passing attack that lost the top five receivers from the 2023 Big 12 champions hip team. Texas joined the Southeastern Conference this year.Golden transferred from Houston and Bond from Alabama, and Ewers and his rebuilt receiving corps easily carved up the Rams. After a slow start that included a stalled drive and an interc eption on Texas' first three possessions, Texas scored 24 points in the second quarter. Every position is open for the Texas Longhorns this spring. Every player will earn his starting role. For that reason, Quinn Ewers will compete with Arch Manning and an injured Maalik Murphy. So, too, will Jaylan Ford compete with Jett Bush and Jalen Cat alon compete with Michael Taaffe. There is no quarterback controversy at Texas. Barring an unforeseen collapse by Ewers, the 2022 starter will remain in the starting role in 2023. That's not an indictment of Manning.Ewers is simply primed for a st rong season this year should he put in the work necessary to thrive in the offense. Arch Manning has a bright future on the Forty Acres. He has the traits and athleticism to earn his own statue outside DKR Memorial Stadium by the end of his career. Manni ng is also a freshman, and would likely endure some of the same growing pains Ewers went through last season. Quinn Ewers will likely win the starting job. Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has thrown for 1,808 yards, 14 touchdowns and six interceptions, and completed just 56.6% of his passes. The Longhorns thew for 21 touchdowns. Last year, Texas had 29. OCT 10 BIG 12 NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Texas' Quinn Ewers returned after missing over three games due to injury and led Texas to a 49-0 victory over Oklahoma in his first Red River Showdown and third collegiate start. The Texas Longhorns overwhelmed rival Oklahoma by a historic margin Saturday, rolling to their largest win in the Red River Showdown's 118-year history with a 49-0 win at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The Longhorns' first shutout against the Sooners since 1 965 that also handed Oklahoma its first shutout since 1998 earned Texas (4-2) the Cheez-It Bowl National Team of the Week honor for games of the weekend of Oct. 8, as selected by the Football Writers Association of America. It was the third straight hono r for a Big 12 team following K-State and TCU the past two weeks.The Longhorns had 585 total yards - 296 of it on the ground - while their defense held the Sooners to just 195 toal yards with two fourth-down stops, the first early in the game that set the tone in front of the sellout crowd of 92,100. The shutout was Texas' first against Oklahoma since a 19-0 win in 1965 and snapped a four-year losing streak in the series. Former Ohio State football player Quinn Ewers has been named Texas' starting quarterback for the 2022 season. Ewers originally committed to the Longhorns as the top-rated player in the 2022 class before flipping to the Buckeyes two months after the decis ion. He then proceeded to make a list of significant decisions that eventually landed him in Austin as the starter. The first step towards that was by reclassifying to the 2021 class and enrolling six months earlier than expected as the four scholarship quarterbacks on OSU's roster. He arrived in August just a few days into fall camp, and his time in Columbus lasted about four months, with his only in-game experience coming in the form of two snaps at the end of a long-decided 56-7 home win over Michiga n State.He chose Texas not long after entering the transfer portal, putting him in a battle with Hudson Card, who was the projected starter coming into his third year in the program. Instead, the Ewers era will begin in Austin on Sept. 3 when the Longhorns host ULM. The former perfectly-rated recruit will get his first taste of the national spotlight the following week when Alabama comes to town as the top-ranked team in the preseason Associated Press Top 25 poll. The battle for the starting Texas quarterback job is underway in Austin. Competition is bringing out the best in each quarterback. In the minimal footage we have seen, both quarterbacks have been accurate. Nevertheless, one throwing motion caught some at tention. Texas fans are familiar with Hudson Card's strong skillset and passing ability, but recently got to see Quinn Ewers' arm talent on full display. Watching the Southlake Carroll gunslinger passing the ball in Texas practice gear makes it easier to visualize Ewers leading the Longhorns into a real game. Maalik Murphy is certainly a player who could factor into Texas' long-term plans at quarterback as well.Despite last year's inconsistency at quarterback, there is confidence that coach Steve Sarkisian will make the best quarterback decision for this team. Now that he is more knowledgable of his personnel than last season, it could be easier to determine the right quarterback fit. Alabama senator Tommy Tuberville and West Virginia senator Joe Manchin intend to draft a bill to present to Congress that would regulate name, image and likeness activities within college sports, their offices announced Wednesday. The pair of U.S. senato rs sent a letter, dated Wednesday, to SEC commissioner Greg Sankey outlining their current concerns about NIL and asking for the SEC's input. Tuberville's office told AL.com that letters were also sent to a "broad range of stakeholders, including [athlet ics directors], commissioners, student groups, etc." Manchin, a Democrat, is a childhood friend of Alabama coach Nick Saban. Tuberville, a Republican and former Auburn coach, also has a long-standing friendship with Saban.Tuberville told Sports Il lustrated that both he and Manchin have spoken to Saban about the issues surrounding NIL. "I've talked to all my [coaching] buddies. They've never seen anything like it," Tuberville told SI. "When you don't have guidelines and direction, no matter what y ou are doing, you are lost. They are all lost right now." Tuberville told The Paul Finebaum Show later Wednesday that he has spoken to multiple coaches and conference commissioners about the topic. In 2015, a yearlong power struggle inside the University of Texas administration finally ended and beer started flowing at Royal-Memorial Stadium. Now UT prefers Longhorns fans drink Bud Light. Anheuser-Busch, one of the nation's largest brewers, announc ed Thursday that it will become the "exclusive domestic and craft beer sponsor" of Texas athletics, the Texas Exes alumni association and the AT&T Red River Showdown game against rival Oklahoma. The university has signed a five-year marketing and adverti sing agreement with Anheuser-Busch and Austin-based Brown Distributing. Financial terms were not disclosed. UT signed a similar marketing agreement in 2017 with Constellation Brands, the makers of Corona, the nation's top imported beer.Bud Light w ill release UT-branded packaging in 16-ounce aluminum bottles and 12-ounce cans in the state of Texas starting Sept. 1. Texas fans attending home games at Royal-Memorial Stadium have become accustomed to being able to purchase a beer, but it wasn't too l ong ago that serving beer at college events was virtually unheard of. UT athletics just signed a five-year deal with Anheuser-Busch. In a statement, Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte said the school was "grateful for the commitment" from both Anheu ser-Busch and Brown Distributing, a company that has supported UT athletics for decades. Former five-star recruit Quinn Ewers, who skipped his senior year of high school to enroll at Ohio State in the hopes of cashing in on endorsement deals, has committed to transfer to Texas. A person familiar with Ewers' decision told The Associated Press on Sunday the quarterback had informed Texas coaches he would return to his home state and play for the school he originally committed to before his junior year at Southlake Carroll High School, outside Dallas. The person spoke on condition on anonymity because NCAA rules prohibited Texas from immediately announcing Ewers' decision. Ohio State quarterback Quinn Ewers has reportedly agreed to a deal worth more than $1 million with a company that arranges autograph signings. Darren Rovell of The Action Network said Ewers' representatives negotiated the arrangement with GT Sports Marke ting. The deal was later confirmed by ESPN's Tom VanHaaren, who more specifically put the numbers at three years and $1.4 million. Ewers announced earlier this month that he was skipping his senior season of high school in order to enroll early at OSU. At the time, Ewers said it was "not just a financial decision," and he joined the Buckeyes a little over a week after the team started fall camp.The decision by the 6-2, 200-pound Southlake, Texas, native was unusual, but not unprecedented. Quinn Ewers has finally touched down in Columbus and joined the Ohio State football program. A university spokesperson confirmed that the five-star quarterback is enrolled in classes and will continue wearing the No. 3 he wore at Southlake Carroll High S chool in Texas. In two seasons as the Dragons' starter, he threw for 6,445 yards and 73 touchdowns while leading them to last season's 6A Division I Texas State Championship game. Carroll lost to Westlake High School, led by Clemson commit Cade Klubnik. Ewers was the top player in the 2022 recruiting class with a perfect star rating but elected to reclassify to cash in on Name, Image and Likeness deals. He still kept that perfect rating after joining the second-ranked 2021 class giving the group four of the top 10 players and seven players rated as five stars. His addition also made Ohio State the first program to sign two five-star quarterbacks in the same cycle.
