TRACKING TOP DRAFT PROSPECTS - WEEK 2: 23. JL Skinner, rSr, SS, Boise State, 6-3, 220, 1,...We are still seeking clarification on why Skinner was inactive in Boise State's, 31-14, rebound win over New Mexico. It is a bit of a mystery that local media has n't solved. FWIW, Kaonohi Kaniho and Alexander Teubner stepped up to fill the void. Previous week, No. 24: Skinner looked 100 percent after a spring car accident as he led Boise State with six tackles and an interception in a 34-17 loss at Oregon State. - Frank Cooney/NFL Draft Scout

TRACKING TOP DRAFT PROSPECTS - WEEK 1: 24. JL Skinner, rSr, SS, Boise State, 6-3, 220,...Skinner led Boise State with six tackles and an interception in a 34-17 loss at Oregon State. His exploits are overlooked not only because of the loss, but because m ost attention is on a brewing quarterback controversy after starter Hank Bachmeier was benched following two interceptions and the team announced open competition for that job this week. Against that background, nobody is chatting up the strong safety, r egardless of how well he played. - Frank Cooney/NFL Draft Scout

Boise State took home the award for Best Institutional NIL Program Monday evening, at the Inaugural NIL Awards at the College Football Hall of Fame. The NIL Awards were presented on the first night of the NIL Summit, which continues Tuesday and Wednesday . The Best Institutional NIL Program Award recognizes the college or institution that has shown exceptional commitment to supporting its student-athletes in maximizing their name, image and likeness opportunities through a combination of education, resou rces and industry-leading innovation.Boise State has taken an aggressive approach to name, image and likeness, setting out to build the most student-athlete friendly NIL program in the country. The "What's Next" program is the A.C.E. up the sleeve of Bronco student-athletes, providing Advocacy, Content and Education that will allow them to maximize their NIL opportunities. One of the elements that sets Boise State apart in the industry is the Boise State NIL Agreement - a voluntary, non-exclusive agreement available to all Bronco student-athletes. Signing up allows Boise State's in-house agency to represent them, seek opportunities and include them in group licensing deals. It also gives those student-athletes access to the Boise State Athletics logo - including photos of themselves in uniform or team-issued gear - to use in approved NIL opportunities. - Lewiston Tribune

Boise State safety JL Skinner spent time in the weight room in the offseason, adding a little more muscle to his 6-foot-4, 218-pound frame, and he's focused on improving his coverage skills. But he does not think either of those things is what will prope l him to a breakout season. Skinner said Tuesday that his confidence is at an all-time high, and that took a lot of work after it was at an all-time low at the end of 2020. "As a DB, if you don't have confidence, it's going to be really hard to succeed," Skinner told reporters on Tuesday. "After this past season, I did a lot of reflecting on myself, and I started to build that confidence within myself again. I started to realize I'm able to play this position at a high level, and I just have to keep wor king."Boise State ended last year's COVID-shortened season with a loss to San Jose State in the Mountain West championship game. The players voted not to play in a bowl game, which snapped the team's streak of 18 straight bowl appearances. The way it all ended just didn't sit right with Skinner. So while most of his teammates went home for Christmas break, he stayed on campus and got to work. The native of San Diego said he took two days off before getting back in the gym. He also said he spent t he better part of a month and a half alone, training and reflecting on what could have been. "I felt disappointed in last year because I know what type of player I can be," he said. "I realized all the things I could have done last year that I didn't do, possibly because of my confidence. I just really started reflecting on myself and looked at everything I could have done differently." - Idaho Statesman
