Arizona State Sun Devils defensive lineman Nesta Jade Silvera on Saturday accepted his invitation to play in the 2023 Senior Bowl. Silvera becomes the first Sun Devil to be playing in the exhibition game at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Alabama, on Feb. 4 in front of NFL scouts. The 6-foot-2, 315-pound defensive lineman announced his declaration for April's draft in Kansas City on Dec. 13.Silvera spent the first four years of his collegiate career as a Miami Hurricane before graduating and t ransferring to Arizona State for his lone season in Tempe. In 10 games for the Sun Devils this past season, the graduate student totaled 51 tackles (18 solo), three tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, two passes defensed and one forced fumble. - Arizonasports.c om

Defensive tackle Nesta Silvera is sitting out the contact parts of spring practice after a shoulder procedure, and it will be interesting to see what new defensive line coach Jess Simpson can do with him. Remember, it was Simpson who in 2018 transformed Gerald Willis from a pretty good player to an exceptional one. "Nesta has done a good job," Simpson said. "His desire to learn football right now is higher than it's ever been. Nesta is a guy with great movement skills. At the end of practice we do a wal k-through every day and you can see the light come on for him in some things he's learning. He is a vertical, penetrating guys we want. The biggest thing going to the fall is his eyes" recognizing what's needed before the snap. Simpson said he and Silver a have watched tape of NFL defensive tackles, including Grady Jarrett and Tyeler Davison, two players that Simpson coached with the Atlanta Falcons the past two years. - Miami Herald

The University of Miami announced Wednesday that sophomore defensive tackle Nesta Jade Silvera sustained a right foot injury and "will undergo surgery later this week." Silvera was seen in a walking boot during practice Tuesday. The school said a timetab le for his return will be available after surgery. The injury is believed to be the Hurricanes' first of fall camp, which opened last Friday. Silvera, from Pembroke Pines, graduated from Plantation American Heritage. At 6-2 and 305 pounds, he played in 1 0 games and had 13 tackles in 2018. - Miami Herald
