The speedy wide receiver, who originally opted out of the season before changing course and opting back in, missed the first three games. Purdue didn't give a reason for his absence but Moore said after Saturday's loss to Minnesota that he had re-aggrava ted a hamstring injury late in training camp. Moore is one of the top wide receivers in not just the Big Ten, but all of college football. He returned to the field in a big way, catching 15 passes for 116 yards with one rushing touchdown against the Goph ers. Moore will present a steep challenge for a Rutgers secondary that has been inconsistent through the first five games. "They're a good football team," Schiano said. "Offensively they're very explosive. They've got Rondale Moore last week. He's one of the fastest, most explosive players in college football, period. So that was a big guy that for them to get back, and they were already doing well offensively." - Asbury Park Press

He finally made an appearance Friday night, and it was quite a performance - 15 catches, 116 yards and one rushing touchdown. But Moore said to blame him for the drama and distraction his situation caused his teammates, this program and don't point the f inger at coach Jeff Brohm. "First and foremost, I just wanted to apologize to my teammates, to my head coach, coach Brohm," said Moore, delivering an unscripted statement. "When I decided to come back to school, I had full intentions to play the full sea son and unfortunately, I re-aggravated a hamstring late in the camp. I wasn't able to go Week 1 and obviously, it was a snowball effect. I wasn't able to go until tonight."I'm apologizing because in the midst of them preparing each week and trying to have a shot to compete for a Big Ten championship, I was a distraction. On coach Brohm's part, I went to his office and asked him to keep it disclosed because I thought I would be back a lot sooner than I was. "A lot of people created these narrative s about myself, about this team and that's never what I intended it to be. I want to apologize but to get back out there felt great. That's really all I've got for you guys." - Journal and Courier

Could Rondale Moore decide to opt back in now that the once postponed Big Ten season is back on? Don't completely rule it out. Purdue coach Jeff Brohm didn't close the door on the talented receiver, who played in just 17 games the last two seasons, reve rsing his decision and coming back to join the Boilermakers. "First of all, we're going to support any decision he wants to make in going forward and the avenue he wants to go," Brohm said when asked if Moore might return. "But yes, it's something we're definitely going to look into and see where that goes."As deflating as Moore's announcement to opt-out and begin training for the NFL was to the fan base, his return would provide a significant boost - both on the field and in general interest - f or the program. Moore called the decision to leave the Boilermakers on Aug. 6 "bittersweet" but felt given "the unprecedented circumstances we are currently living in, the best choice for my family is to opt out of the upcoming season and prepare for the NFL Draft." - Journal and Courier

All-American receiver Rondale Moore of Purdue says he will opt out of this college football season and will prepare to enter next year's NFL draft. Moore made the announcement with a farewell note posted on Twitter. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound junior became one of the most electrifying players in the country two years ago when he caught 114 passes for 1,254 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also had 21 carries for 213 yards and two more scores and helped the Boilermakers pull off a stunning upset of then top-rank ed Ohio State. His reward - first team All-American honors as an all-purpose player. Moore entered last season billed as a potential Heisman Trophy candidate. But after being hobbled early that season with a hamstring injury, he hurt it again in the Boil ermakers fourth game and missed the rest of the season. It turned out to be his final appearance in a Purdue uniform. Moore wrote that is on course to graduate in December. - AP College Football

When Rondale Moore injured his hamstring last season against Minnesota, which forced him to miss the final eight games of the season, college football lost one of its most electric players. Not having the first consensus true freshman All-American in Big Ten history was too much for the team to absorb, along with a rash of injuries on offense. Moore's healthy now, and participated in Purdue's spring practices before COVID-19 shut them down. Jack Plummer and Aidan O'Connell manned the QB spot for most of the season after Eljiah Sindelar was hurt. Sindelar graduated and won't return, and Purdue brought in UCLA transfer Austin Burton to compete with Plummer and O'Connell for the starting job. Whomever wins the spot must get Moore back to the explosive, pl aymaking heights of his freshman season. Moore is projected as one of the top wide receiver prospects in the 2021 NFL draft, so it is likely his last season in West Lafayette. If the quarterback does his job, Moore should make defensive coordinators nerv ous all season. - Wisconsin State Journal

From a statistical standpoint, it will be hard to match his freshman season since Purdue has more weapons on offense (David Bell, Milton Wright, etc.) and spread the production around. However, the additional weapons should give Moore some freedom since defenses need to respect the other players on the field. Yes, this should be his last year in college. He's on track to graduate and head to the NFL. - Lafayette Journal & Courier

Next year's NFL Draft - particularly the first round - is expected to have some local flavor in it. New Albany native and Purdue sophomore Rondale Moore will very likely hear commissioner Roger Goodell call his name next April in Cleveland. The standout wide receiver/kicker returner, who had an All-American freshman season with the Boilermakers before being hampered by a leg injury as a sophomore, is a projected first-round pick. In a recent scan of a handful of mock drafts, all five had Moore among the top 30 selections next year.Last season Moore played in only four games, after suffering an injury in the team's Big 10 opener, finishing with 29 receptions for 387 yards - an average of 13.3 yards per catch and 96.8 yards per game - and two TDs. He, however, appeared to be fully healthy for Purdue's spring practices, before they were canceled due to the coronavirus. "I feel good. I'm at 100 percent," Moore said in early March. "I've just been trying my best to become better." And he continues t o work. Earlier this week Chris Vaughn, the founder and CEO of Aspirations Fitness Institution in Louisville, tweeted a video of Moore bench-pressing 405 pounds. "Are we really going to debate who the top receiver in the country is?" read the tweet, whic h also challenged every wide receiver in the nation to match the lift. "Prerequisite[,] make sure you led the nation in catches as a true freshman and were a consensus All American." - News and Tribune

The Purdue Boilermakers got a double dose of bad news Monday. Starting quarterback Elijah Sindelar will miss multiple weeks with a broken left collarbone and All-American receiver Rondale Moore will sit out Saturday at No. 12 Penn State with a left leg i njury. "It's too early to tell," Brohm said Monday when asked if Sindelar's injury would end his season. "He will be out an extended period of time." Sindelar was undergoing surgery as Brohm spoke to reporters at his weekly news conference. Brohm didn't provide even a hint of Moore's prognosis, instead saying he hoped to obtain more information later. "We hope it's not (season-ending or long term)," Brohm said. The Boilermakers (1-3, 0-1 Big Ten) started this year with momentum and rising expectat ions thanks in large part to having a healthy, strong-armed, experienced quarterback paired with one of the nation's most electrifying playmakers. One play in last weekend's loss to Minnesota may change everything. Sindelar suffered his injury on a sack when his left shoulder was driven into the ground. Down the field, Moore got shoved by a Minnesota player while running a pass route, appeared to stumble and then took an awkward step as he tried to regain his balance before falling to the ground. Moore went into the medical tent for about 10 minutes before he was carted to the locker room. - AP College Football
