William Sherman bet on himself this winter, and it paid off. On Saturday, the former Colorado offensive lineman was selected by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. Sherman, who is 6-foot-3, 310 pounds and skipped his senior year with the Buffaloes, was selected 197th overall and was the only lineman drafted by the Patriots. Sherman is the first CU offensive lineman taken within the first six rounds since David Bakhtiari was a fourth-round choice of the Green Bay Packers in 2013. This is the fifth consecutive season CU has had a player drafted. It's the second straight year an offensive lineman was taken after Arlington Hambright was a seventh-round choice of the Chicago Bears in 2020. A three-year starter with the Buffs, Sherman elected to skip his senior season to enter the draft early. He is the 11th CU player to enter the draft early and all 11 have been drafted. - Daily Camera

Will Sherman checked just about every box as an accomplished Division I tackle at Colorado. In three seasons in Boulder, he made 15 starts at left tackle and 12 starts at right, anchoring the Buffs' line from both sides while earning second-team All-Pac-12 honors in 2020. But at 6-foot-3, Sherman's lack of height has become an issue as an NFL tackle prospect. That's why he's determined to use his pro day on Monday to show scouts his versatility at guard and center. "I've put a huge emphasis in my training on being able to play all five positions, so I've been snapping the ball a lot to show I can play there and just to let all 32 teams know I can play wherever they need me to play up front," Sherman said. "I really want to show them I can play on the interior."

CU offensive line coach Mitch Rodrigue believes the Allen, Texas, native has the athleticism and intellect to make a position switch. Sherman's only played one game at guard in his career, while in high school, and none at center. "Will's best asset is his athleticism, and he's also a very intellectual player," Rodrigue said. "He works hard on studying extra film and understanding his opponent, and his natural position is going to be center or guard. He's going to excel, learn it really fast and take ownership of it. There's no doubt he can play either of those positions at the next level." - Denver Post

On Wednesday, the NFL announced the list of 323 draft prospects invited to take part in the scouting combine, and former CU tackle William Sherman is on the list. Sherman, a junior last season, elected to forgo his final season at CU to declare for the draft. The 6-foot-4, 310-pound Sherman was named second-team All-Pac-12 by coaches and media last season. Sherman is the 11th player in CU history to declare early for the draft. - Daily Camera

Colorado's Will Sherman has declared for the 2021 NFL Draft. The leader of Colorado's offensive line is heading to the NFL. On Friday night, left tackle Will Sherman announced on Twitter that he will skip his senior season and enter the 2021 NFL Draft. Sherman, a 6-foot-4, 310-pounder from Allen, Texas, was named second-team All-Pac-12 by coaches and media this season. Sherman is just the 11th player in CU history to forgo his senior year and declare early for the draft, but the third to do so in the last four years, joining cornerback Isaiah Oliver after the 2018 season and receiver Laviska Shenault last year. - Daily Camera

Looking at the list of offensive linemen at Colorado this season gets William Sherman excited. "Since I've been here in 2017, this is probably the most talented and the most depth that we've had on the O-line," said Sherman, a junior tackle. "I'm excited for guys to compete, because there's going to be a lot of competition and it's going to make us a lot better." Offensive line improvement has been an ongoing pursuit at CU for several years and Sherman will play a key role in the Buffs taking a step forward this year.

Sherman, a 6-foot-4, 310-pound junior from Allen, Texas, is one of two returning full-time starters to the line, along with left guard Kary Kutsch. Colby Pursell, who started five games at right guard, also returns. Pursell is likely to move back to center, where he started all 12 games in 2018. Sherman has been CU's top-graded lineman each of the past two seasons - and he's done it while playing two different positions. He started nine games at left tackle as a redshirt freshman in 2018, earning All-Pac-12 honorable mention from the coaches. - Daily Camera
