Northwestern safety JR Pace has started his own unusual tradition. During the Wildcats' game against Wisconsin on Nov. 21, cameras showed him bending to swipe towels from the waistbands of two Badgers players after Northwestern's Brandon Joseph was tackl ed following an interception. It wasn't the first time Pace had done it. It was just the first time it was televised. "I've been doing that every game; it just happened to get caught on TV," Pace said Monday."I do it just to mess with the offensiv e players because they get frustrated with it." Illinois players might want to secure their towels Saturday when the rivals meet in Evanston. Pace said Michigan State players didn't seem to have towels hanging from their pants a week after the NU-Wiscons in game. "I was looking for them and none of the offensive players were wearing them," he said. Maybe word got out? Pace doesn't have a stash of keepsake towels, though. "I don't have any of them," he said, "because I always wind up giving them out (to o thers)." - Chicago Tribune
