The next domino has fallen in Tallahassee. Cam Akers has played his last down in garnet-and-gold. Newly-minted head football coach Mike Norvell will not get a chance to coach the former five-star running back, who declared for the NFL on Saturday. In his announcement, Akers said he will not play in the Sun Bowl on December 31 in El Paso. Akers eclipsed 1,000 yards for the second time in his three-year college career this fall, rushing for 1,144 yards and an eye-popping 18 total touchdowns, 14 of them ru shing. The next leading rusher for the Noles amassed a mere four touchdowns and 297 yards rushing. Akers' four receiving touchdowns was second only to redshirt sophomore Tamorrion Terry, who also faces an NFL decision. - WTLV-WJXX First Coast News

Keep an eye on Florida State RB Cam Akers, the most talented player on a Seminoles team that has endured a bumpy few weeks that culminated in the firing of coach Willie Taggart. Akers rushed for 144 or more yards in two straight games before Miami held h im to 66 yards last week. Expect interim coach Odell Haggins to lean on Akers, who averages 109.2 yards rushing, against a Boston College team that has one of the ACC's worst run defenses. - AP College Football

Cam Akers has done a little of everything to help Florida State this season. On Saturday that included his most extensive playing time of his college career as a wildcat quarterback. Akers ran for 144 yards and tied a school record with four touchdown ru ns as Florida State routed Syracuse 35-17 on homecoming. The junior tailback had his fifth 100-yard rushing game of the season and now has 12 rushing touchdowns in 2019. Akers also took some snaps out of the wildcat formation and completed two passes for 26 yards. "Akers is the type of back that can break two or three tackles every time he touches the football," Syracuse coach Dino Babers said. "When you get into a wildcat formation, basically you have 10 blockers. When you have a first-round draft pick and you have 10 guys blocking, that is a really, really good formation. I would be very surprised if they don't continue to use that the rest of the year." Florida State (4-4, 3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) showed very little wildcat formations with Ake rs in its previous seven games. But it was a focus for the Seminoles in the week leading up to Saturday's game and Akers, a five-star prospect who was a wildcat quarterback in high school, was excited to show his versatility. "We practiced it, repped it, " Akers said. "We felt confident in it, doing it in this game." Akers' 26 total points, which included a 2-point conversion run, was the second-highest in school history to Ron Sellers' 30 points vs. Wake Forest in 1968. - Florida State/AP College Footba ll

Cam Akers is flashing his freshman form again as a junior. Last year, running behind one of the worst offensive lines in the Power Five, Akers rarely was able to get free. Getting a little more help this year, Akers is again a weapon for the Seminoles. H e has 17 runs of at least 10 yards through four games compared to 16 all last season. He's coming off a grinding 112 yards and three touchdowns in a victory against Louisville. Florida State will need another big day from Akers to make it two straight vi ctories. North Carolina State visits Saturday with one of the best run defenses in the ACC. - AP College Football

Florida State let fourth-quarter leads slip away against Boise State and Virginia. Even Louisiana-Monroe tied up the game before Florida State won that game in overtime. The Seminoles weren't about to let this opportunity slip away again. Cam Akers score d three touchdowns and Alex Hornibrook came off the bench and threw a 60-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter as Florida State defeated Louisville 35-24 on Saturday. Akers ran 29 times for 112 yards for Florida State (2-2, 1-1 Atlantic Coast Confere nce), which had a season-high 522 offensive yards. His final score, a 1-yard touchdown run with 1:37 to go, secured a win after the Seminoles let late leads slip away in losses to Boise State and Virginia. "We had some music on, some coaches were dancing ," Hornibrook said. "Some people that shouldn't have been dancing were dancing. It was awesome. That's what you play football for - those feelings like that."The Seminoles had good feelings early but nearly let another opportunity to win slip away after squandering a 21-0 lead after the first quarter. But they finished off a win, and did it even after losing quarterback James Blackman to a knee injury in the third quarter. Florida State coach Willie Taggart said Blackman will undergo further test s on Sunday. Hornibrook was expected to make his Florida State debut and was inserted into the game in the first quarter, tossing a 44-yard touchdown pass to Keyshawn Helton on his first throw for the Seminoles. When Blackman was lost to injury on Florid a State's first drive of the second half, the Wisconsin graduate transfer then took over. - Florida State/AP College Football
