In the punting game, he had two attempts in which he averaged 53.5 yards per punt - including booting a season-long 67-yard blast. He had two punts that were downed inside the 20-yard line. The redshirt freshman caught a 70-yard strike from Dresser Winn for the team's first score midway through the first quarter and later added a six-yard score to give the Skyhawks a 28-14 lead at halftime.   OCT 3 OVC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Shaun Lewis, DB, 6-0, 180, Grad., Houston, Texas, UT Martin,...Lewis had a career-high 11 tackles and returned an interception 44 yards for a touchdown as UT Martin improved to 2-0 in OVC play with a 45-28 win over Tennessee Tech. His 11 tackles were a game-high and Lewis also added three pass breakups. With the Skyhawks ahead 28-14 coming out of halftime, Lewis picked off Jeremiah Oatsvall and returned it for a touchdown to extend the advantage to 35-14.   SEPT 5 OVC DEFENSIVE & NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK: Shaun Lewis, DB, 6-0, 180, Grad., Houston, Texas, UT Martin,...Lewis, a transfer from Houston, showed his big play ability in his Skyhawk debut against Western Illinois. The cornerback tallied three tackles while notching a pair of interceptions and a pass breakup. His interceptions came in the second and fourth quarters. It marked the first time a Skyhawk had tallied multiple interceptions in a single game since the spring 2021 season against Tennessee Tech. Lewis was one of eight FCS players with multiple picks so far this season.   Freshman Sam Franklin's 86-yard touchdown run sparked a 24-point burst and UT Martin defeated Tennessee Tech 45-28 on Saturday. Jeremiah Oatsvall threw a 42-yard scoring strike to Heath Price to finish off a five-play, 75-yard drive on the opening possession and Tennessee Tech led 7-0. UT Martin (3-2, 2-0 Ohio Valley Conference) pulled even on Dresser Winn's 70-yard scoring strike to freshman DJ Nelson midway through the quarter and took a 14-7 lead when Zak Wallace scored on a 3-yard run with 9 seconds left.

Oatsvall and the Golden Eagles knotted the score early in the second quarter with a 28-yard touchdown toss to David Gist. The tie lasted until Franklin's long touchdown run on the next play from scrimmage. Winn followed with a 6-yard touchdown toss to Nelson for a 28-14 halftime lead. Shaun Lewis opened the scoring in the second half when he picked off an Oatsvall pass and returned it 44 yards to the end zone. Tyler Larco's 36-yard field goal gave the Skyhawks a 38-14 lead with 6:48 left in the third quarter, capping a 24-0 run. Winn completed 21 of 34 passes for 335 yards. Franklin had 94 yards on five carries, while Wallace added a fourth-quarter touchdown run and totaled 71 yards on 17 carries.   Dresser Winn threw three touchdown passes, Zak Wallace rushed for three scores and UT Martin beat Western Illinois 42-25 Thursday night in a season opener. Winn was 22-of-37 passing for 317 yards. Wallace rushed 20 times for 139 yards. Colton Dowell added 100 yards on seven catches with a score and Elijah Smoot made two TD grabs. Shaun Lewis had a pair of interceptions in his UT Martin debut. The Skyhawks, ranked in the FCS and the preseason favorite in the Ohio Valley Conference after winning the league title last season, led 21-7 at halftime and 35-13 after three quarters. Nick Davenport threw three touchdown passes and Henry Ogala added another for Western Illinois. Naseim Brantley had a career-high 171 yards on six catches with three scores. Myers Hendrickson was denied a victory in his first game as head coach at his alma mater.   2022 PRESEASON STATS PERFORM FCS FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: OL - Matthan Hatchie, 6-2, 310, senior, UT Martin,...A native of Haleiwa, Hawai'i, Hatchie has been named a consensus Preseason All-American by several publications as the two-time All-OVC selection returns for his final season in the middle of the Skyhawk offensive line. Hailed as the fourth-best returning FCS offensive lineman in 2022 according to HERO Sports, Hatchie graded out at 89 percent or better in each game last season. Along with tallying 101 knockdowns he anchored an offensive line which ranked first in the OVC in sacks allowed (0.83/game) while only being responsible for one sack in 362 attempts. No matter where he was located, the playmaker's stats followed as he compiled 68 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss – including a pair of sacks – and ranked second in the OVC with four interceptions.
