  WEEK 8 BIG SKY SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Grant Meadors, Sacramento State (K, So., Bakersfield, Calif.),...Grant Meadors was a perfect 4-of-4 on field goals Saturday night, aiding in Sacramento State's 40-35 win over Northern Colorado. Meadors was successful on field goal attempts of 37, 28, 34, and 42 yards in the win, with his 34-yard attempt with 9:30 to play putting the Hornets ahead by two points and his season-long 42-yarder with 2:01 remaining to extend the team lead to five points. Overall, Meadors had 16 of Sac State's 40 points, 12 coming from field goals and four off his perfect day on PATs. The weekly conference honor is the first of his career.   Rodney Hammond Jr. and JaQuail Smith each ran for more than 100 yards, Grant Meadors kicked a pair of fourth-quarter field goals and Sacramento State beat Northern Colorado 40-35 on Saturday night. Following Meadors' fourth field goal, a 42-yarder with 2:01 to play, Eric Gibson Jr. drove Northern Colorado to the Sacramento State 3 with 30 seconds left but threw an incomplete pass on fourth-and-1. Meadors' 34-yard field goal gave Sacramento State (4-3, 2-1 Big Sky Conference) a 37-35 lead with 9:30 remaining. He also made field goals from 37 and 28 yards in the first half.

Ricky Lee III's 34-yard pick-6 to start the fourth quarter gave Sacramento State a 34-28 lead. Northern Colorado answered with Gibson's 62-yard touchdown pass to Carver Cheeks for a 35-34 advantage. Hammond had 134 yards rushing on 21 carries that included a 46-yard touchdown. Smith carried 17 times for 103 yards. The Hornets ran for 323 of their 434 yards of offense. Gibson was 21-of-33 passing for 321 yards and threw three touchdowns but four interceptions for Northern Colorado (3-4, 1-2). He also threw a 75-yard TD pass to Cheeks in the second quarter.   WEEK 7 BIG SKY SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rodney Hammond Jr., Sacramento State (KR/RB, Sr., Norfolk, VA.),...Rodney Hammond, Jr. helped lead Sacramento State to a 55-27 victory at Weber State, as the senior accounted for three total touchdowns, including a 99-yard kickoff return for a score. After Weber State cut Sac State's lead to two scores, Hammond fielded the kickoff at the 1-yard line and broke free through the middle of the field for the touchdown. The score was the longest kick return by a Sac State player since Tyrone Taylor also went 99 yards against Idaho State in 1996. Hammond's mark is tied for third in program history, trailing only a pair of 100-yard returns. The senior's other kickoff return in the game went for 42 yards. He also rushed for 106 yards and scored two touchdowns on the ground.   Cardell Williams rushed for three touchdowns, Rodney Hammond Jr. had two touchdown runs before returning a kickoff for a score and Sacramento State steamrolled Weber State 55-27 on Saturday night. Williams scored on a 10-yard run with 55 seconds left in the first quarter to give Sacramento State (3-3, 1-1 Big Sky Conference) a 7-3 lead. Hammond scored on a 14-yard run 58 seconds into the second quarter and Williams followed with a 51-yard touchdown run less than three minutes later for a 21-3 advantage.

Dijon Jennings had a 5-yard touchdown run at the end of a 13-play drive for Weber State (2-4, 0-2) to cut it to 21-10. Jaquail Smith answered with a 13-yard touchdown run with 50 seconds left and the Hornets took a 28-10 lead into halftime. Hammond's second touchdown run came from 8 yards out for a 35-10 advantage three minutes into the third quarter. He returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown after the Wildcats had cut it to 41-27 with 8:36 remaining. Smith capped the scoring with a 24-yard touchdown run at 2:46. Williams completed 5 of 9 passes for 53 yards for Sac State. He added a 3-yard touchdown run early in the final quarter and finished with 139 yards on 12 carries. Smith rushed 17 times for 135 yards and Hammond gained 108 on 15 carries. The Hornets finished with 397 yards on 50 rushes. Jennings totaled 157 yards on 16-for-28 passing for Weber State.   WEEK 4 BIG SKY CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dylan Hampsten, Sacramento State (DL, So., Santa Clarita, Calif.),...Sacramento State's Dylan Hampsten had five tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss and 2.5 sacks in an impressive defensive effort for the Hornet defense in the 45-16 win over Central Arkansas on Saturday night. Hampsten's efforts were part of a 13 TFL, eight sack effort by the team, with it being the highest team effort for the Hornets since 2011.   Cardell Williams passed for 252 yards and accounted for three touchdowns, Damian Henderson II ran for an 85-yard touchdown, and Sacramento State beat Central Arkansas 45-16 on Saturday night. Williams was 15-of-20 passing for 252 yards, including a 9-yard touchdown to Sam Adams II, and added 61 yards rushing and two TDs on eight carries. Henderson finished with 15 carries for 137 yards and his touchdown run was the longest by a Hornets player since 2004 (Ryan Mole, 87 yards). Sacramento State had 11 plays of 20 yards or more, averaged 9.9 yards per play and finished with 602 total yards. Central Arkansas (2-2) gave up eight sacks, including 2 1/2 by Dylan Hampsten and two by Jayland McGlothen.

Sacramento State (2-2), ranked No. 22 in the FCS coaches poll, has won back-to-back games after losing 20-3 at FCS No. 2 South Dakota State in the opener and a 20-17 loss at FBS-foe Nevada on a pick-6 with 2:17 left in the fourth quarter. Jaden Rashada came on in the fourth quarter completed both of his pass attempts, hitting Jordan Anderson on third-and-14 for a 38-yard gain and, two plays later, throwing a 50-yard touchdown pass to Ernest Campbell that capped the scoring with 8:01 to play. Landen Chambers had 108 yards rushing and a TD on 22 carries for the Bears.   WEEK 2 BIG SKY CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Koa Akui, Sacramento State (DB, Jr., Hilo, Hawaii),...Koa Akui recorded a pair of interceptions in Sacramento State's near upset of Nevada. Akui's first interception came on the Wolf Pack's opening drive of the game as he stepped in front of a pass to at the Hornet 23-yard line to preserve an early 7-0 lead. In the third quarter, Akui gathered in a deflected pass and returned it 27 yards.   Damian Henderson II ran for 98 yards and three touchdowns, Cardell Williams accounted for three touchdowns and Sacramento State cruised to a 49-28 victory over Mercyhurst on Saturday night. Henderson carried the ball just 12 times and scored on runs from 19, 4 and 30 yards. Williams threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Williams to end Sacramento State's opening series and his 57-yard TD strike to Ernest Campbell gave the Hornets a 21-18 halftime lead.

Williams completed 8 of 17 passes for 176 yards, and his 24-yard touchdown run capped the scoring with 1:32 remaining. Adam Urena was 27-of-44 passing for 280 yards with two touchdown passes and two interceptions to lead Mercyhurst. Brian Trobel added 62 yards rushing and a short-yardage touchdown run for the Lakers.   Pitt running back Rodney Hammond Jr. has been declared ineligible and will miss the 2024 season, the school announced Friday. No reason was provided, but Hammond remains a member of the team and can practice, the school said. Hammond, in his fourth year, led the Panthers in rushing last year with 564 yards and scored four touchdowns. Desmond Reid was listed as co-No. 1 on the depth chart at running back heading into Pitt’s opener Saturday at home against Kent State. Reid is a third-year transfer from Western Carolina, where he played for new Pitt offensive coordinator Kade Bell and ran for 897 yards and 13 touchdowns last season. - AP College Football

  Asher O'Hara threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Pierre Williams to cap the scoring with 6:28 to play and No. 2 seed Sacramento State beat Richmond 38-31 Saturday in the second round of the FCS playoffs. Sacramento State (12-0), ranked No. 2 in the FCS coaches poll, extended its program record for single-season wins. The Hornets play No. 7-seed Incarnate Word in the quarterfinals. Leroy Henley caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Reece Udinski to give the Spiders a 31-24 lead going into the fourth quarter but Jake Dunniway hit Marshel Martin for a 19-yard TD and, after Richmond missed a 46-yard field-goal attempt, Williams slipped behind a pair of defenders and was hit in stride by O'Hara's pass for the winning touchdown catch-and-run.

Williams finished with four receptions for 107 yards and Martin caught 10 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns for Sacramento State. The duo is the first to each have at least 100 yards receiving in the same game for the Hornets since the 2019 season. O'Hara threw a 5-yard TD pass to Martin that opened the scoring midway through the first quarter but Reece Udinski sandwiched touchdown passes of 25 yards to Jasiah Williams and 24 yards to Henley around a 1-yard scoring run by Savon Smith to give Richmond (9-4) a 21-7 lead early in the second quarter. Elijah Tau-Tolliver returned the second-half kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown that gave the Hornets a 24-21 lead. Udinski finished 21-of-39 passing for 216 yards and three touchdowns for Richmond.   2022 ALL-BIG SKY FIRST TEAM: OLB Marte Mapu (SAC),...Mapu joins linebacker Matt Logue (2005) as the only players in school history to be named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year. The senior ranked second on the team with 65 total tackles, including 6.5 for loss and one sack. He tied for the team lead with a pair of interceptions, added four pass breakups, two quarterback hurries and forced a fumble. Mapu, who started all 11 games during the year, had at least three tackles in each game and tallied five or more in eight contests. This season, Williams caught 35 passes for 514 yards and six touchdowns. He currently ranks second in school history with 2,762 career receiving yards, is tied for third with 21 touchdowns and is fourth with 170 receptions. The senior kicker made 14-of-17 field goal attempts during the season, including a stretch of 13 in a row. He also set the school single season record with 59 made PATs. The Blaine, Wash., native is now sixth in school history with 208 career points. He also ranks third with 35 career field goals and 103 extra points. The linebacker set career highs with 78 total tackles including 12.5 TFLs and six sacks to lead the team in all three categories. Bailey added four pass breakups, three quarterback hurries, forced two fumbles and recovered one. The Vallejo, Calif., native was credited with at least four tackles in all 11 games and had seven or more in eight of the final nine games of the season.   2022 ALL-BIG SKY FIRST TEAM: OL Brandon Weldon (SAC),...Jackson Slater and Brandon Weldon anchored an offensive line which helped produce a school record 2,757 rushing yards during the season. Both started all 11 games with Slater at left guard and Weldon at right. The honor is the first for Slater who is a true sophomore from Bellevue, Wash. Weldon, a senior from Compton, Calif., returned to the all-Big Sky teams after earning second team honors a year ago.
