  10/12/25 - Kobe SingletonrSr/2026, Oregon State, 5-11, 188 (DS#118 CB) + More +

Oregon State fired coach Trent Bray on Sunday after the team fell to 0-7, its worst start to a season since 1991. Robb Akey will be the interim head coach for the rest of the seson pending a national search for Bray’s successor, athletic director Scott Barnes said. "I want to thank Coach Bray for the energy and determination he brought to the role. A former student-athlete, proud graduate, and dedicated mentor, Trent’s connection to Oregon State runs deep - he will always be a Beaver," Barnes said. "This was a difficult decision, but the results on the field were not acceptable and after evaluating every aspect of the football program, I believe it is in the best interests of OSU football student-athletes, our fans and our university."

The move came a day after backup quarterback Deshawn Purdie threw for 270 yards and four touchdowns in his first start for Wake Forest and the visiting Demon Deacons beat Oregon State 39-14 in front of a listless home crowd. The Beavers haven’t started this poorly since 1991, when they started 0-10. After the game, Bray said he planned to keep showing up "until they tell me I can’t." - AP College Football

Braden Atkinson passed for 316 yards and connected with CJ Miller for the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter as Mercer survived an upset bid from Wofford with a 22-21 victory in a Southern Conference opener Saturday night. Atkinson completed 26 of 37 passes with two interceptions for the Bears (1-1) - ranked 22nd in the FCS coaches poll. Miller also rushed for 74 yards on 16 carries and his 3-yard touchdown run gave Mercer a 10-0 lead after one quarter.

Ethan Drumm fired an 80-yard scoring strike to Ivory Aikens to get the Terriers (0-3) on the scoreboard, but Reice Griffith kicked his second field goal - a 40-yarder - as time expired for a 13-7 lead at the half. Drumm hit Isaiah Scott for a 51-yard touchdown and then tossed a 7-yard score to C.J. Adams on back-to-back third-quarter drives to put Wofford on top 21-13. Griffith kicked a 44-yard field goal to cut it to 21-16 midway through the third quarter and Atkinson's go-ahead score came 57 seconds into the fourth. Kendall Harris topped Mercer with six catches for 101 yards. Drumm had 168 yards on 6 of 16 passing. - AP College Football

  08/31/24 - Jam GriffinrSr/2025, Oregon State, 5-09, 208 (DS#61 RB) + More +

Jam Griffin and Anthony Hankerson each ran for over 150 yards and combined for four rushing touchdowns as Oregon State relied on its ground game in a 38-15 victory over Idaho State on Saturday. Griffin, who played for Oregon State in 2022 and returned to Corvallis after spending last season with Ole Miss, shined in his return despite losing a first quarter fumble. He had 160 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns. Hankerson gained 155 yards on 24 attempts with two scores. The Beavers amassed 379 yards rushing.

Hankerson's second touchdown of the first half-a 6-yard run with 27 seconds remaining in the second quarter-gave Oregon State a 17-9 lead at the break. Gevani McCoy connected with David Wells Jr. on a 55-yard touchdown pass to extend the Beavers' lead to 24-9 at 10:39 of the third quarter. Griffin's 22-yard touchdown scamper pushed the lead to 31-9. A 9-yard touchdown pass from Idaho State's Hunter Hays to Michael Shulikov cut the lead to 31-15 with about one minute left in the third quarter.   08/30/24 - Maalik MurphyrJr/2027, Oregon State, 6-5, 234 (DS#42 QB) + More +

Jaquez Moore, Jeremiah Hasley and Eli Pancol scored short touchdowns while Duke's defense racked up eight sacks as the Blue Devils beat Elon 26-3 on Friday night in their first game under Manny Diaz. It wasn't a big offensive day for Duke (1-0), which often had to grind its way through drives while quarterback Maalik Murphy - a touted transfer from Texas - struggled to connect deep on multiple tries and threw a fourth-quarter pick as he tried to push one ball downfield. Still, the Blue Devils' defense didn't need much help, repeatedly swarming the line of scrimmage and getting to seventh-year quarterback Matthew Downing. The Blue Devils had three sacks in the first two possessions, tallied five by halftime and never let Downing - who had stops at Georgia, TCU and Louisiana Tech - get comfortable.

Elon (0-1), a Championship Subdivision program chasing its first win against a Bowl Subdivision foe, finished with just 140 total yards. Jack Berkowitz kicked a 39-yard field goal with 14 seconds left to avoid the shutout. Moore scored Duke's first touchdown from 7 yards out around the left side with less than a minute before halftime, while Hasley had a 1-yard snag in the right flat from Murphy midway through the third quarter for a 19-0 lead. Murphy added a clinching score, zipping a 7-yard throw to Pancol near the left pylon to make it 26-0 with 4:06 left. He finished with 291 yards on 26-for-40 passing. - AP College Football

The Illinois football defense received yet another piece of good news Tuesday, following plenty of it the day prior. Linebacker Calvin Hart Jr. is returning for the Illini's 2023 season, which will be his third in Champaign-Urbana and his sixth college football campaign overall. The 6-foot-1, 230-pound native of Florida is the third defensive player to announce this week that he's remaining with coach Bret Bielema's program for the upcoming season. Defensive linemen Johnny Newton and Keith Randolph Jr. each did the same on Monday.

Hart is a former North Carolina State transfer who played in 12 of the Illini's 13 games during the 2022 schedule, including the ReliaQuest Bowl versus Mississippi State. Hart amassed 22 tackles, 1 1/2 tackles for loss and 1/2 sack after being named to the preseason watch list for the Dick Butkus Award, given annually to the nation's top linebacker. - News Gazette Tribune

California tight end Jermaine Terry II announced Thursday night that he will be transferring to Oregon State. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound sophomore has two years of eligibility remaining, with three years to play it. Terry fills a need for Oregon State, which lost tight ends Luke Musgrave and J.T. Byrne from its 2022 roster. Interestingly, Byrne announced last week that he would be transferring to California.

In two seasons at California, Terry played in 19 games, recording eight catches for 52 yards. He started all 12 games for the Bears during the 2022 season. Terry received offers from Colorado, Hawaii, Indiana, Nevada and Syracuse, among others, after entering the transfer portal. He was a four-star prospect and the No. 237 overall recruiting nationally, according to On3 Consensus, in the Class of 2021. Terry had more than two dozen college offers while in high school, including Oregon, Oregon State, Alabama, Texas A&M and Washington. - The Oregonian

Two former Utah Utes who entered the transfer portal in the last month have announced their new destinations, and they're both programs in the West. On Wednesday, defensive end Tyler Wegis announced that he is headed to Boise State, and on Thursday, linebacker Mason Tufaga announced he is going to Oregon State. Those are solid landing spots for two players who saw very limited action during their time as Utes. Wegis, who hails from California, appeared in just one game total after signing with Utah in the Class of 2020. - Deseret News

  01/04/23 - *Alex AustinrSo/2023, Oregon State, 6-1, 196 (DS#35 CB) + More +

Oregon State must replace two starting cornerbacks next season as fourth-year sophomore Alex Austin announced Sunday that he's leaving school and taking a shot at the 2023 NFL Draft. Austin and senior Rejzohn Wright were OSU's starting cornerbacks the past two years. Wright is also preparing for a chance at the NFL draft.

Austin, who entered Oregon State in 2019, played in 35 games, starting 30, during his college career. Austin started all but one game the past two years, and earned all-conference honors in 2021 and 2022. The 6-foot-1 Austin made 57 tackles, had 10 pass breakups, grabbed two interceptions and had one sack this past season. Austin had four interceptions and 140 tackles during his career. - The Oregonian

  01/01/23 - Kitan OladaporSr/2024, Oregon State, 6-1, 216 (DS#4 SS) + More +

Oregon State safety Kitan Oladapo has decided to return to school and play for the Beavers in 2023 rather than take a shot at the NFL draft as an early entry. The 6-foot-1, 215-pound senior-to-be was OSU's second-leading tackler this past season with 80 stops. The return of Oladapo is an enormous boost to the Beaver defense. OSU's secondary loses several key players from a stellar 2022 unit, including cornerback Rejzohn Wright and safety Jaydon Grant. Oladapo has 33 career starts and five years in Oregon State's program.

Oladapo is a two-time all-conference safety. The Central Catholic High grad had some incredibly impactful games during the 2022 season. He posted a career-high 15 tackles in a win at Fresno State, only to better than number with 17 stops against Oregon. Among Oladapo's 80 tackles was four tackles for loss and 2½ sacks. Oladapo ranked 13th in the Pac-12 in tackles. Oladapo has 174 career tackles. - The Oregonian

Deshaun Fenwick came off the bench to rush for 107 yards, and No. 17 Oregon State nearly dealt Florida a rare shutout, winning the Las Vegas Bowl 30-3 on Saturday. The Beavers (10-3) reached 10 victories for the third time program history and the first time in 16 years. They first accomplished the feat in 2000, when coach Jonathan Smith was the team's quarterback. Oregon State won seven of its final eight games. After the Beavers took control early in the third quarter by going up 17-0, the only real question was whether Florida would keep its NCAA-record scoring streak intact. The Gators last were shut out in 1988, a span of 436 games and 57 games longer than any other team. The streak remained alive when Adam Mihalek made a 40-yard field goal with 37 seconds left.

It was the first start for Florida redshirt freshman quarterback Jack Miller, and it showed. He completed 13 of 22 passes for 180 yards. Miller, an Ohio State transfer, was elevated to the starting lineup when Anthony Richardson declared for the NFL draft and backup Jalen Kitna was arrested on child pornography charges. The Gators closed their first season under coach Billy Napier with three consecutive losses. This also was their second 6-7 record in a row. Fenwick entered this game third at Oregon State in rushing with 446 yards. But he was called into duty when Pac-12 Conference offensive freshman of the year Damien Martinez went out with an apparent shoulder injury on the Beavers' second drive. Martinez had rushed for at least 100 yards in six consecutive games and needed just 30 yards to become the fourth freshman in program history to gain 1,000 for the season. He had only 12 yards on three carries before the injury. Fenwick and the Beavers' defense led Oregon State to the emphatic win. - Oregon State/AP College Football
