  Juwan Carter threw two touchdown passes, Justin Smith had 106 yards receiving and a score and Norfolk State beat North Carolina Central 38-21 on Saturday. Norfolk State (4-6, 3-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic) never trailed. Half of Smith's receiving yards came on a 53-yard touchdown catch from Carter for 10-0 lead with 3:50 left in the first quarter. The Eagles got back in it when Davius Richard threw a 26-yard scoring pass to Treveyon Pratt just before the end of the quarter. Kevin Johnson's 2-yard TD run made it a 17-7 lead. Early in the third, Richard threw a 23-yard TD pass to Daeshawn Stephens to reduce the deficit to three, but they never got closer. Richard threw for 384 yards and three scores for NC Central (4-6, 3-3). E.J. Hicks had 140 receiving yards on seven receptions. - AP College Football

  2019 JERRY RICE AWARD WATCH LIST: Kevin Johnson, RB/KR, Norfolk State: 63 carries, 393 yards, 6 TDs; 11 receptions, 169 yards, 3 TDs; 105.4 all-purpose yard per game (8 games),...Johnson has made a huge impact in his rookie season. Johnson is tied for third in the MEAC with nine total touchdowns, six rushing and three receiving. He also ranks fourth in the MEAC in all-purpose yards (105.4 ypg) and seventh in rushing yards (49.1 ypg).

A three-time MEAC Rookie of the Week winner, Johnson has rushed 63 times for 393 yards, an average of 6.2 yards per carry. He also has 11 receptions for 169 yards.   Juwan Carter threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score in Norfolk State's 48-0 rout of Morgan State on Saturday. The Spartans (3-6, 2/3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) avenged last season's loss to Morgan State (1-8, 1-5), their first loss to the Bears since 2006. Carter hit Da'Kendall James with an 80-yard touchdown pass on the Spartans' second play from scrimmage, added a 25-yard TD pass to Justin Smith and capped the first half with a 14-yard touchdown run for a 31-0 lead.

Carter threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Tylan McElhenie midway through the third quarter and finished 16 of 28 for 314 yards passing. Rayquan Smith ran for 142 yards and Kevin Johnson added a touchdown run for Norfolk State. Devyn Coles had two of the Spartans five interceptions. Nhyre' Quinerly ran an interception 48 yards into the end zone early in the fourth. Morgan State was held to 153 yards of offense.
