  Elijah Jennings ran for three touchdowns, Derek Robertson threw for two more, and Monmouth stayed unbeaten in Coastal Athletic Association play with a 42-31 win over Towson on Saturday. Robertson completed 26 of 31 passes for 244 yards, and the Hawks (5-1, 2-0 CAA) piled up 448 total yards with a balanced offense that found the end zone in every quarter. Rodney Nelson ran 27 times for 152 yards and opened the scoring on a 1-yard plunge in the first.

Robertson's 4-yard touchdown pass to Maxwell James pushed Monmouth ahead 14-0 early in the second before Towson responded with a 1-yard scoring toss from Winston Watkins to CJ Schaeffer. Jennings scored from a yard out for a 21-7 lead, but the Tigers (3-4, 1-2) cut it to 21-14 at halftime on Andrew Indorf's 4-yard pass to John Dunmore. Towson tied it twice - at 21 on Indorf's 6-yard throw to Lukkas Londono, then again at 28 after Watkins' 8-yard run - before Monmouth pulled away behind a 10-yard pass to Jack Neri and Jennings' third touchdown from three yards out. Josh Derry caught six passes for 67 yards, while Gavin Nelson and TJ Speight combined for eight receptions. Towson's Indorf finished with 292 yards and three scores, but fumbled twice, losing one. The 203 yards were the most by a CAA back this season and the 8th-most in FCS in 2025. It was the fourth game this season with 100+ yards for Nelson, who leads FCS with 142.4 rushing ypg.   Derek Robertson threw for 397 yards and four touchdowns and Monmouth never trailed in a 51-33 win over Villanova on Saturday in a game featuring a pair of top 20 FCS teams. It was Robertson's second straight game throwing for four scores. He also threw for 410 yards in a 42-35 defeat against FBS Charlotte last week. On the second play from scrimmage, Robertson threw a 75-yard touchdown to Josh Derry who finished with eight catches for 177 yards and two touchdowns. The Wildcats countered on their opening drive when Pat McQuaide threw a 10-yard touchdown to Brandon Binkowski to knot it at 7-7. But Monmouth seized control scoring the next 24 points and led 31-14 at halftime.

Rodney Nelson ran for 186 yards on 33 carries and scored twice for Monmouth. McQuaide threw for 333 yards and two touchdowns, David Avitt ran for 135 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns and Luke Colellla caught 117 yards on nine receptions for Villanova. It marked the last time the two will square off as Coastal Athletic Association opponents. The Wildcats will compete in the Patriot League starting next season. No. 18 Monmouth (3-1, 1-0) stayed perfect in its four-game history over 12th-ranked Villanova (1-2, 0-1). - AP College Football

  Derek Robertson threw four of his program-record six touchdown passes to Josh Derry and ran for another score to lead Monmouth to a 49-28 victory over Fordham on Saturday night. Robertson threw touchdown passes from 29 and 67 yards to Derry in the first quarter, and the pair connected again with a 7-yard touchdown just before halftime that stretched Monmouth's lead to 34-21. Robertson's 1-yard touchdown run made it 40-28 early in the fourth quarter and Derry's fourth touchdown catch from 3 yards out capped the scoring.

Robertson was 29-of-43 passing for 342 yards. Derry finished with 10 receptions for 144 yards. Rodney Nelson added 113 yards rushing on 25 carries for Monmouth, which opened its season 2-0 for the first time since 2021. Gunnar Smith completed 27 of 49 passes for 382 yards and threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score to lead Fordham (0-2). Smith threw a 70-yard touchdown pass to Jack Betten early in the second quarter. Betten led the Rams with 81 yards receiving on three catches. - AP College Football

  Derek Robertson rallied after throwing four interceptions, leading FCS No. 22-ranked Monmouth to five straight second-half touchdowns and a 42-39 win over Colgate in the season opener Friday night. The opener marked the debut of first-year Colgate coach Curt Fitzpatrick, in his first game as an FCS head coach, facing the longest-tenured FCS coach in Monmouth's Kevin Callahan, a former Colgate assistant who took over the Hawks in 1992. Colgate, which won its last three meetings with the Hawks, led by as many as 24 points early in the second half as Monmouth's Robertson threw his first interception three minutes into the game and his fourth midway through the third quarter, which the Raiders turned into an eight-play, 80-yard drive to take a 24-7 lead at the break and added a touchdown to start the second half for a 31-7 advantage.

Robertson started the rally by hitting Gavin Nelson with a 70-yard touchdown, then drove 75-yards in seven plays to set up Rodney Nelson's 1-yard run to make it 31-21 to start the fourth quarter. Robertson found Gavin Nelson from 24-yards out to get the Hawks within three, 31-28, then went back to him for a third touchdown, this one from 51-yards out to take a 35-31 lead. Rodney Nelson ran 75-yards for his second touchdown to take a 42-31 lead. Robertson finished the game with 491 yards on 34-of-45 passing with four touchdowns and four interceptions. Rodney Nelson ran for 169 yards and two touchdowns and Gavin Nelson caught five passes for 176 yards and three scores. Zach Osborne was 11 of 14 for 227 yards and two touchdowns and Jake Stearney was 10 of 23 for 138 and a score. Osborne carried 10 times to lead the Raiders with 59 yards. - AP College Football

  2023 CAA FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Jaden Shirden, Monmouth,...Shirden is the first repeat winner of the CAA Offensive Player of the Year award since UNH's Rick Santos received three straight honors from 2005-07. The junior ran for 1,478 yards and 10 touchdowns, becoming the first player to lead the FCS in rushing in back-to-back years since Sacramento State's Charles Roberts in 1998-99. Shirden topped the 100-yard mark seven times and tallied over 200 yards twice this season, including 276 yards and 4 TD's vs. Hampton on Oct. 14. He added 20 receptions for 120 yards and a TD. Shirden currently has 3,697 career rushing yards, which is the 4th-most of any active player in FCS football. - CAA Football

  2022 ALL-CAA FOOTBALL FIRST TEAM: Jaden Shirden, Monmouth, RB, So.,...Shirden finished the regular season with the most rushing yardage in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision at 1,722 yards, scoring 13 touchdowns. The West Haven, CT native averaged 7.8 yards per carry and a NCAA best 156.5 rushing yards per game. A home-run threat every time he touched the ball, Shirden had nine touchdown runs of 50+ yards, including a 95 yarder against Fordham. His 1,722 rushing yards are the second most in school history while his 156.5 ypg and 299 yards against Fordham set new Monmouth career marks. - Monmouth Football
