James Ohonba and Trenton Gillison spent most of this past season with Michigan State football on the sideline. Now, they will try to get on the field elsewhere after they entered the NCAA transfer portal Friday. Gillison, a former starter at tight end, played 93 snaps on offense and special teams this fall. A former four-star recruit in the 2018 class, Gillison ceded playing time to converted running back Connor Heyward, former punter Tyler Hunt and redshirt freshman transfer Maliq Carr. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound redshirt junior produced 18 catches and 201 receiving yards during his career in East Lansing. Ohonba, who joined the program as a three-star prospect at the same time as Gillison, never won a starting job despite appearing in every game since the start of the 2020 season. - Lansing State Journal
