2020 PRESEASON DAVEY O'BRIEN AWARD WATCH LIST: Dustin Crum, Kent State,...Crum is one of 10 non "power-5" quarterbacks to make the list and the only representative from the Mid-American Conference (MAC). After taking over as QB1 in week two, Crum went on to lead the MAC in passing in conference games, averaging over 240 yards per contest. Syracuse football linebacker Juan Wallace has entered the transfer portal, he announced on Monday. Wallace, a 6-foot-2, 227-pound redshirt sophomore, appeared in 24 games over the last two seasons, primarily on special teams. He logged eight tackles in t hat span, including seven last year to go with a pass break-up. Wallace came to Central New York from H.D. Woodson High School in Washington, D.C. He initially picked the Orange over other finalists Duke and Maryland before Georgia courted him late in th e process. This fall, Wallace was expected to be one of many SU linebackers competing for playing time in first-year defensive coordinator Tony White's 3-3-5 system. Kent State football players, as coach Sean Lewis said Thursday, haven't been able to call themselves winners for seven years. On Friday night, the Golden Flashes not only became winners but also achieved something that no other team in school history cou ld claim - a bowl victory. Dustin Crum passed for 289 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a career-high 147 yards and the clinching score to help Kent State beat Utah State 51-41 in the Frisco Bowl. "I'm just so happy for the university," said Crum, who also was Kent State's leading rusher during the season. "We weren't supposed to be here, but here we are." Kent State (7-6) closed with four straight wins to finish with a winning record for the first time since 2012. "I love these boys," said second-ye ar coach Lewis, whose first Kent State team finished 2-10. "Just tremendous resolve by them. It was a testament to their character." Xavier Williams, Dustin Crum and Will Matthews combined to rush for 204 yards and three touchdowns and Kent State held off Eastern Michigan 34-26 on Friday. Williams ran for 79 yards and a TD on 12 carries, Matthews totaled 74 yards on 14 totes, while Cr um had 13 carries for 51 yards and two scores for the Golden Flashes (6-6, 5-3 Mid-American Conference). Crum also completed 17 of 23 passes for 197 yards. Kent State took a 24-14 lead into halftime and the Golden Flashes quickly made it a 17-point advan tage when Jamal Parker returned the opening kickoff of the second half 96 yards for a score.Mike Glass III finished 29-of-37 passing for 386 yards and three touchdowns, but he also threw two interceptions. Glass connected with Line Latu for a 30-y ard score in the third quarter and hit Bryson Cannon for a 6-yard TD midway through the fourth quarter to get the Eagles (6-6, 3-5) within 31-26. Arthur Jackson III had four catches for 129 yards for Eastern Michigan, while Latu caught nine passes for 10 8 yards. Matthew Trickett added a 24-yard field goal for Kent State with 1:27 left to play to cap the scoring. NOV 25 MAC EAST DIVISION CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kent State QB Dustin Crum,...Kent State junior quarterback Dustin Crum (Grafton, Ohio) amassed 470 yards of total offense (369 pass 101 rush) and four touchdowns in a 41-38 win over Ball State on Nov. 23. Crum set a career high in both passing and rushing yards in the game. He connected on 69 percent of his passes (18-26) and connected on touchdown passes of 21-24-51 to Isaiah McKoy. He became the first quarterback to throw for 300 and rush for 1 00 in the same game since Josh Cribbs in 2004 and the first to throw for 350 since Colin Reardon in 2014. Dustin Crum passed for 369 yards and ran for another 101, Matthew Trickett kicked a 22-yard field goal with 19 seconds remaining and Kent State defeated Ball State 41-38 on Saturday. After Ball State's Caleb Huntley scored on a 42-yard run to tie the gam e at 38 with 4:14 remaining, the Golden Flashes (5-6, 4-3 Mid-American) drove 67 yards in 11 plays to set up Trickett, last season's All-MAC placekicker. Crum was 18-of-26 passing with three touchdowns to Isaiah McKoy (6 receptions, 159 yards) and Crum a dded another touchdown on the ground. Mike Carrigan had eight catches for 178 yards, including a 64-yard non-scoring play. Ball State's MAC-leading rushing game piled up 330 yards and four touchdowns with Huntley gaining 192 yards on 30 carries with two touchdowns. Walter Fletcher added 90 yards and a touchdown and quarterback Drew Plitt had the other rushing touchdown. Plitt passed for 208 yards and one touchdown for the Cardinals (4-7, 3-4).
