  10/29/22 - Kenny McIntoshSr/2023, Georgia, 6-0, 216 (DS#12 RB) + More +

Daijun Edwards and Kenny McIntosh ran for two touchdowns each, and No. 1 Georgia pulled away from Florida following a second-half scare to win 42-20 Saturday night in the rivalry dubbed "the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party." The defending national champion Bulldogs (8-0, 5-0 Southeastern Conference) looked to be in trouble when the Gators (4-4, 1-4) scored the first 17 points of the third quarter and turned a 28-3 deficit into a one-score game. But the Dawgs answered with consecutive touchdown drives to seal their 10th consecutive victory. Georgia beat Florida for the fifth time in six years. Edwards finished with 106 yards rushing. McIntosh added 90 on the ground. Stetson Bennett completed 19 of 38 passes for 316 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Tight end Brock Bowers caught five passes for a career-high 154 yards, including a 73-yard score in which he hauled in a ball that tipped off linebacker Amari Burney.

Burney's luck turned in the second half when he forced a fumble that led to a field goal and then picked off a pass that set up Anthony Richardson's 78-yard TD pass to Xzavier Henderson. Little else went the Gators' way. Georgia finished with 555 total yards against Florida's beleaguered defense and was 2-for-3 converting fourth-down plays. Richardson threw for 271 yards and a touchdown for the Gators, who have lost 12 of their last 15 SEC games. Nearly half of Richardson's passing yards came on plays of 78 and 41 yards. Freshman Trevor Etienne ran for 53 yards and a score. Georgia surely will celebrate this one after a day of mourning. Legendary coach Vince Dooley died Friday. Dooley dominated the Georgia-Florida series during his coaching career, going 17-7-1 against the Gators. The most famous victory came in 1980, when Lindsay Scott hauled in a 93-yard touchdown pass from Buck Belue in the closing minute. The improbable 26-21 triumph propelled Georgia to a perfect season and their first consensus national title. - AP College Football

  10/15/22 - Stetson BennettrSr/2023, Georgia, 5-11, 192 (DS#8 QB) + More +

Stetson Bennett grimaced when told the news. The Atlanta Braves were knocked out of the Major League Baseball playoffs Saturday. After No. 1 Georgia romped to a 55-0 victory over Vanderbilt, the Bulldogs' veteran quarterback pointed to his favorite baseball team - the reigning World Series champions - as an example of how fleeting a title can be. "Are we gonna cash our chips in after so-and-so games, or are we gonna keep going, keep going, and know this isn't over until its over?" asked Bennett, whose team is seeking its second straight national championship. Unlike the Braves, the Bulldogs are still on track. Bennett threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns - his first scoring passes in nearly a month - and Georgia stamped its return to the No. 1 ranking with a blowout of the lowly Commodores.

Georgia (7-0, 4-0 Southeastern Conference) led 28-0 at halftime and shook off three straight weeks of rather lackluster performances. Those games provided a valuable lesson in what it takes to repeat as a champion. "It's tough," Bennett said. "We are not King Kong standing atop the Empire State Building. We've gotta work and execute each week, go out there and expect a dog fight until it's not one." Bennett was nearly perfect in the first half, completing 18 of 20 for 211 yards. Darnell Washington, the 6-foot-7 tight end who usually plays a supporting role to Brock Bowers, came up big with four catches for 78 yards, including a one-handed dazzler. "It's like throwing to the Pacific Ocean," Bennett quipped. Bennett hooked up with Kenny McIntosh on an 11-yard scoring play - the quarterback's first TD pass in four weeks - and followed with a 10-yard scoring toss to Dominick Blaylock. "It was good to get in the end zone," Bennett said. "But it was better to score 55." - Georgia/AP College Football

  10/09/22 - *Kelee RingorSo/2023, Georgia, 6-2, 207 (DS#5 CB) + More +

Georgia took back the No. 1 spot in The Associated Press college football poll from Alabama on Sunday after being bumped out last week by the Crimson Tide, who slid to No. 3. The Bulldogs received 32 first-place votes and 1,535 points in the Top 25, presented by Regions Bank, to easily reclaim No. 1. They were just two points behind Alabama at No. 2 last week. Georgia thumped Auburn 42-10 on Saturday. The Tide, whose Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Bryce Young was sidelined by injury, escaped an upset bid at home by Texas A&M. Ohio State moved up a spot to No. 2, receiving 20 first-place votes and 1,507 points.

No. 3 is a season-low for Alabama, which was preseason No. 1 but fell to No. 2 after Week 2. The Tide received 11 first-place votes. There were two notable season debuts in the Top 25: No. 24 Illinois is ranked for the first time since 2011 and James Madison is in the AP Top 25 for the first time in its program history. The Dukes are playing their first season as a member of the Sun Belt Conference in Division I college football's highest level. Clemson overtook Michigan and moved up to No. 4 and the Wolverines fell one spot to No. 5. Tennessee moved up to No. 6, which is the best ranking for the currently undefeated Volunteers since No. 5 early in the 2005 season. Tennessee stumbled to a 5-6 and unranked finish that year. Southern California fell one spot to No. 7, and Oklahoma State, Mississippi and Penn State held their places to round out the top 10. - AP College Football

Carter, a 6-foot-3, 310-pound junior, has five tackles and seven quarterback hurries this season. He is projected to be an early first-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft.   10/01/22 - Kendall MiltonSr/2024, Georgia, 6-2, 225 (DS#24 RB) + More +

Daijun Edwards plunged into the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown with just over four minutes to go, completing No. 1 Georgia's rally from 10 points down in the fourth quarter to beat Missouri 26-22 on Saturday night. Kendall Milton also scored in the fourth quarter for the Bulldogs (5-0, 2-0 SEC), who trailed almost the entire way before finally solving red-zone woes that forced Jack Podlesny to kick four field goals just in time to avoid the upset. Stetson Bennett struggled all night against relentless blitzing by Missouri (2-3, 0-2), which has never beaten a top-ranked team in 17 tries. But the leader of the defending national champions maintained his composure, and ultimately led the Bulldogs on two late touchdown drives while finishing with 312 yards passing and no interceptions.

Brady Cook had 192 yards passing and a touchdown for the Tigers, but they also struggled to reach the end zone against one of the country's best defenses. Harrison Mevis wound up kicking five field goals, including two from 50-plus yards, one week after missing a potential game-winner in an overtime loss at Auburn. Georgia riled up the Tigers long before kickoff when several of them walked through their pregame drills, and Bulldogs defensive tackle Jalen Carter and Missouri's Darius Robinson had to be physically separated. The Tigers carried their angst right into the game. Their rebuilt defense, due to coordinator Blake Baker, forced an early fumble and bunch of punts, and Missouri capitalized on the good field position. Mevis made the first of his field goals to put the Bulldogs in their first hole of the season. They wound up spending the rest of the night digging out of it. - Georgia/AP College Football

  09/26/22 - *Jalen CarterJr/2023, Georgia, 6-3, 323 (DS#1 DT) + More +

Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter, still bothered by an ankle injury that limited him against South Carolina in week three, played only one snap - at fullback - in a 39-22 win over Kent State. Coach Kirby Smart said "It's a nagging ankle injury...It's tough for defensive linemen because you're dealing with 500-600 pounds of pressure." The 6-3, 300 pound Carter is ranked No. 3 overall by NFL Draft Scout with the next defensive tackle being Clemson's Bryan Bresee at No. 13. - Georgia Football/Frank Cooney-NFLDraftScout

  09/26/22 - Javon BullardJr/2024, Georgia, 5-11, 198 (DS#1 FS) + More +

Defensive back Javon Bullard's status for No. 1 Georgia's Southeastern Conference game at Missouri on Saturday is uncertain after he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Coach Kirby Smart said Bullard must appear before a committee that includes athletic director Josh Brooks. "Disappointed in Javon," Smart said Monday. "Hate it for him. He has a wonderful family but made poor decisions, and it will be dealt with internally." Smart said there is "still a lot in the air there" regarding Bullard's status.

Bullard has started in three of four games at the "star" defensive back position. He has seven tackles. Bullard was arrested by University of Georgia police in Athens early Sunday and charged with seven misdemeanors, including failure to maintain lane and holding a wireless device. He was booked at 4:57 a.m. and was released on bond less than four hours later. Bullard, a sophomore, had three tackles in Georgia's 39-22 win over Kent State on Saturday. He had 12 tackles as a backup in 2021. - AP College Football

  09/24/22 - Brock BowersJr/2024, Georgia, 6-3, 243 (DS#1 TE) + More +

Brock Bowers scored two more touchdowns and No. 1 Georgia survived a sloppy performance and surprisingly gritty effort from Kent State, holding off the Golden Flashes 39-22 Saturday. The Bulldogs (4-0) turned it over three times, struggled in the red zone, were burned on a fake punt and gave up several big plays to Kent State (1-3) in what was easily their worst performance of the season. Was it bad enough to knock Georgia out of the top spot in the rankings? Check back Sunday. Kent State had a chance to make it a one-score game with less than 13 minutes remaining after Marquez Cooper scored on a 1-yard run to cap a 12-play, 75-yard drive. But a two-point conversion failed, leaving the Bulldogs with a 32-22 lead. Georgia then finished off the Golden Flashes, driving 75 yards for Kendall Milton's 1-yard plunge on fourth-and-goal with 5 1/2 minutes to go. Bowers, coming off a three-touchdown performance against South Carolina, took it to the end zone on the second play of the game with a dazzling 75-yard run.

Going in motion to take a handoff, the sophomore tight end found a big hole around right end and never stopped running, turning on his impressive speed down the sideline in front of the Georgia bench. Bowers also scored on a 2-yard run, strengthening his credentials as one of the nation's most dynamic offensive weapons. But Bowers was the exception for Georgia on this day. Ladd McConkey lost a pair of fumbles, once on a punt return, another after catching a pass in Kent State territory. Stetson Bennett threw his first interception of the season, though he did score on a 1-yard dive, sticking the ball across the line while falling on his back with 8 seconds left in the first half to send the Bulldogs to the locker room up 26-13. Georgia settled for three field goals by Jack Podlesny after driving inside Kent State's 20-yard line, which allowed the Golden Flashes to hang around. Kent State was facing a team currently ranked in the AP Top 25 for the third time in its first four games, having already lost to No. 18 Washington and No. 6 Oklahoma. - Georgia/AP College Football

The Bulldogs have allowed a total of 10 points in three games.
