  09/01/22 - Christopher SmithrSr/2023, Georgia, 5-11, 192 (DS#4 FS) + More +

ESPN TOP 100 PRESEASON 2022 CFB PLAYERS (Selected Aug. 17): No. 62. Christopher Smith, S, Georgia, Senior. Notable 2021 stats: 44 tackles (23 solo), 3 INT. Last year's ranking: NR. Smith is certainly not the most heralded player on Georgia's defense, but he is one of its most experienced and productive. Last season, he started 11 games and had 35 tackles, four pass breakups, three interceptions and two quarterback hurries. He was at his best in the Bulldogs' biggest game, totaling seven tackles, two pass breakups and an interception in a 33-18 victory over Alabama in the CFP National Championship. - ESPN.com

ESPN TOP 100 PRESEASON 2022 CFB PLAYERS (Selected Aug. 17): No. 44. Stetson Bennett, QB, Georgia, Senior. Notable 2021 stats: 2,862 yards, 29 TDs. Last year's ranking: NR. For much of the past two seasons, some Georgia fans looked for every reason to bench the former walk-on. In the end, he silenced his critics by leading the Bulldogs to a national title. Bennett was offensive MVP in the CFP National Championship Game, completing 17 of 26 passes for 224 yards with two scores. With a full offseason as the starter under his belt, and a healthier and deeper receiver corps coming back, he might be better in 2022. - ESPN.com

  09/01/22 - Nolan SmithSr/2023, Georgia, 6-2, 238 (DS#1 OLB) + More +

ESPN TOP 100 PRESEASON 2022 CFB PLAYERS (Selected Aug. 17): No. 40. Nolan Smith, OLB, Georgia, Senior. Notable 2021 stats: 55 tackles (31 solo), 3.5 sack, 3 FF. Last year's ranking: NR. One of the few holdovers from last season's record-setting defense, Smith has been largely overshadowed by former defensive line stars Jordan Davis, Devonte Wyatt and Walker. The No. 2 recruit in the 2019 class, according to ESPN Recruiting, Smith should have more of a spotlight this season. He had nine tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 56 tackles and three forced fumbles in 2021. - ESPN.com

  08/18/22 - Brock BowersJr/2024, Georgia, 6-3, 243 (DS#1 TE) + More +

More than a year and a half after he first arrived on campus, Brock Bowers is about as well known a name in Athens as anybody that currently plays for the Georgia football team and that includes one Stetson Bennett IV. Media policies as they are under Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart, true freshmen do their talking on the football field. So Tuesday afternoon was the first time Bowers stood before reporters and answered questions since he became a Bulldog. Figure it will be the first of many given his star power now. Something he didn't exactly see coming. "I didn't really expect much during fall camp last year, it just kind of all happened," Bowers said. "And pretty fast, too." If Bowers were to replicate his freshman season output-which may be a stretch given how deep the tight end room is now and the Bulldogs aren't guaranteed to play 15 games again-he would stand No. 2 on the program's all-time touchdown career list behind only Terrence Edwards' 30 who did that in four seasons.

Bowers tied A.J. Green for most receptions ever by a Georgia freshman with 56, broke the program record with 16 touchdown catches and had the most receiving yards ever by a tight end with 882. "I wasn't really focused on that at the moment," he said. "I was kind of worried about every single game. Just winning every single game and just trying to help the team as much as I could." "We didn't know exactly what we had with Brock," offensive coordinator Todd Moken said. "We knew he was rare in how he worked, and how he came every day. How that developed and kept going, we just kind of fell into it. We knew he was fast once he could catch and run with it. That's different. The GPS says one thing on the field, and you think, 'We have to keep trying that." - Athens Daily Banner

  08/17/22 - Kenny McIntoshSr/2023, Georgia, 6-0, 216 (DS#12 RB) + More +

Former Georgia linebacker Rennie Curran, who attended the scrimmage, called Kenny McIntosh a "beast" on Twitter on Sunday. "He had a great run, but to be honest he's a great blocker too," coach Kirby Smart said. "Kenny has had a great camp. He's picked up pressures, played really physical, caught the ball out of the backfield. Everything that he wants to do at the next level in our offense, we have asked him to do, and he's done a great job at that." With Kendall Milton missing time with a minor hamstring injury, McIntosh has even more chance to shine. Georgia's top rusher from last season worked behind Zamir White and James Cook, now in the NFL. "He can do everything," running backs coach Dell McGee said. "He can run inside tackles, he can run outside tackles, he's really good on the perimeter. He has really, really good hands. Probably some of the best hands since DeAndre (Swift)." McIntosh, working with Kearis Jackson on kickoff return, is being asked to mantain his weight. He's listed at 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds. "He's definitely going to be an integral part of our offense and he will be relied upon heavily," McGee said. - Athens Daily Banner

  08/16/22 - Arian SmithrSr/2025, Georgia, 6-0, 179 (DS#50 WR) + More +

Arian Smith's impact is undeniable when he's on the field for the Georgia football team. The problem continues to be keeping him there. A week into preseason practices, the Georgia wide receiver sustained another injury that kept him out of the first scrimmage Saturday and could sideline him for the season opener against Oregon on Sept. 3 and beyond. Smith will undergo surgery for a high ankle sprain, coach Kirby Smart said after the scrimmage. Smith has five catches at Georgia-three for touchdowns-for a whopping 37.6 yards per catch average. "The poor kid can't catch a break, man," Smart said. "He had an injury right when he first got here jumping in the long jump pit. He had another injury his sophomore year. …We don't know how long it's going to take. It will require surgery but it's not broken. We're hopeful to get him back."

Georgia returns its top two wide receivers from last season in AD Mitchell and Ladd McConkey and senior Kearis Jackson who had 16 catches for 194 yards last season. Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint enters his junior season and Dominick Blaylock is now two years removed from his second torn ACL after seeing action in just four games last season. "Over time he has gotten to the point where he feels more and more comfortable," offensive coordinator Todd Monken said. "He's always been a crafty route runner. He's probably more crafty than he is fast. He has a knack. Some guys just have a knack for getting open and making plays and contested catches and you can see that every day that he is out there." - Athens Daily Banner
