Central Michigan running back Kobe Lewis has entered the transfer portal, according to a report from Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports. He will be eligible immediately as a graduate transfer. Lewis suffered a preseason knee injury that forced him to miss the entire 2021 season. Heading into the 2022 campaign, he had been rehabbing the injury in Atlanta, Georgia near his hometown of Americus. Prior to the news of his transfer, coach Jim McElwain said he would be available when the team began summer workouts. Lewis was expected to be an important player at running back next to Lew Nichols III, who is the reigning NCAA leader in rushing yards. Nichols was the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year and a first team All-MAC selection in 2021. In four seasons with the Chippewas, Lewis rushed for 1,579 yards and 18 touchdowns. His top showing came in 2019, when he rushed for 1,074 yards as the secondary option behind Jonathan Ward. - Central Michigan Life

Two more South Carolina players appear to be leaving the program. Defensive linemen Keem Green and Devontae Davis are both in the transfer portal, a South Carolina spokesperson confirmed to The State on Monday. Rivals first reported the news of Green's entrance, while The Big Spur reported Davis' possible departure. Green, a former four-star junior college recruit worked mostly with the scout team and didn't play in a game last season. Green played in eight games for the Cornhuskers between 2019 and 2020 after two years at Highland Community College in Kansas. He was credited with a half-tackle in Saturday's annual Garnet and Black spring game. Davis appeared in nine games at South Carolina after transferring in from Georgia Military College. The New Ellenton native compiled just four tackles in his Gamecocks career. Green and Davis' potential departures come just hours after receiver/tight end E.J. He finished the year just shy of triple digits, topping out at 97 - 53 solo and 44 assisted. That mark put him fifth in the entire CAA at 8.82 tackles per game. Not succumbing to pressure, his highest single-game total came against No. 5 ranked Villanova when the Wildcats visited Casey Stadium on Homecoming weekend. Johnny Ford ran for a 27-yard touchdown in the first quarter and James Charles scored on a short run in the fourth to give Florida Atlantic an 18-point lead, and the Owls held off a late UTEP comeback attempt to earn a 28-25 win on Saturday night. The loss snapped UTEP's four-game win streak heading into a first-place showdown with UTSA next week. Ford's run put Florida Atlantic (5-3, 3-1 Conference USA) up 7-3 in the first quarter. N'Kosi Perry hit LaJohntay Wester with a 39-yard touchdown pass with :02 left in the first half to send the Owls into the break with a 14-10 lead.

Zaire Mitchell-Paden punched in with 3:27 left in the third quarter to make it 21-10, and Charles' 1-yard run pushed it to 28-10 early in the fourth. UTEP mounted a comeback with an 82-yard, seven-play drive. Ronald Awatt scored on a 5-yard run with 2:50 left and punched in the two-point conversion to make it 28-18. Gavin Hardison fired a 49-yard touchdown pass to Tyrin Smith with 2:02 left. UTEP got the ball with :30 left but could not get itself in position to attempt a game-tying field goal. Perry finished with 149 yards on 13-for-26 passing and Ford finished with 93 yards on 123 carries. The Miners (6-2, 3-1) outgained Florida Atlantic 454 to 279. N'Kosi Perry set up three touchdowns on as many drives in a breakaway third quarter and Florida Atlantic held Charlotte scoreless for all of the second half for a 38-9 victory Thursday night, just hours after each university announced it will be leaving Conference USA. Perry was a crisp 9 of 11 passing for 225 yards and three TDs. Johnny Ford rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown and caught one pass for 32 yards and another score. Charlotte (4-3, 2-1) was seeking its first 5-2 start. FAU (4-3, 2-1) entered the game winless on the road but, strangely, remains undefeated in Charlotte in four games there.

Charlotte led 9-7 at halftime as Chris Reynolds found Grant DuBose at the front of the end zone with a pass from the 1-yard line on the last play of the second quarter. The 49ers twice converted on fourth-and-one during the 17-play drive. Florida Atlantic opened the second half with a four-play scoring drive when Ford hauled in a screen pass from Perry and took it to the end zone on a 32-yard catch and run. On FAU's next possession, Perry hooked up with Je'Quan Burton on a 57-yard pass to set up first-and-goal, and Malcolm Davidson carried on a nine-yard touchdown a play later as the Owls extended their lead to 21-9. Perry found Brandon Robinson with a 30-yard touchdown pass near the end of the third to lead 28-9. Blake Hester ran for 120 yards and two touchdowns and Zach Gibson threw three third-quarter touchdowns to rally Akron to a 35-20 win over Bowling Green on Saturday. Gibson, who played briefly in one previous game, went 14 of 15 for 177 yards after taking over for injured starter Kato Nelson. Hester's first touchdown pulled Akron (2-4, 1-1 Mid-American Conference) within 13-7 at the half. In the third quarter Gibson completed three straight drives with touchdown passes to Konata Mumpfield for 1 and 9 yards and Nik Ognenovic for 21.

Then Hester, who had 106 yards and no touchdowns entering the game, capped a 91-yard drive with a 37-yard burst up the middle, making it 34-13. The Zips, who had been outscored 58-7 in the third quarter this season, beat the Falcons in consecutive years for the first time since 2005-06. They piled up 387 yards after being minus-14 after their first four drives. Mumpfield had six catches for 106 yards. The Falcons (2-4, 0-2) entered the game allowing just 94 yards a game through the air. Matt McDonald was 21 of 35 for 257 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted three times. N'Kosi Perry passed for 329 yards and three touchdowns and Florida Atlantic rolled up 704 yards total offense in a 58-21 victory over Florida International in a Conference USA opener on Saturday. Perry completed 18 of 21 passes without an interception, compiling a passer rating of 264.5. Johnny Ford had 102 yards on 16 carries and FAU finished with 296 yards on the ground. Je'Quan Burton caught seven passes for 121 yards and a touchdown. Eleven players caught passes for the Owls (3-2, 1-0). After a 27-point second quarter led to a 34-21 halftime lead, the Owls shutout their in-state rival in the second half and Nick Tronti, Ford, and Kelvin Dean Jr. scored rushing touchdowns. FIU's Max Bortenschlager completed 12 of 27 passes for 263 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Backup Grayson James completed 7 of 12 for 56 yards. N'Kosi Perry threw for 278 yards and Florida Atlantic added 248 yards on the ground in a 45-14 victory over FCS-member Fordham on Saturday night. The Owls (2-1) led 14-7 at halftime before erupting with 31 points in the second half. Perry threw both his touchdown passes in the third quarter. After Fordham drew within 28-14, the Owls scored the game's final 17 points in the fourth. Tim DeMorat threw two touchdown passes but the Rams (0-3) managed only 237 total yards and 11 first downs. SEPT 13 CONFERENCE USA CO-OFFENSIVE OF THE WEEK: Florida Atlantic QB N'Kosi Perry drew his second start as an Owl and first before the home crowd in Boca Raton. The Miami transfer easily moved the ball down the field scoring on four of his nine drives, with no three-and-out drives on the day. He guided the Owls offense that totaled 541 yards and used a commanding 33:50 of game clock against a triple option offense.
