The American Athletic Conference announced an agreement Friday with Cincinnati, Houston and UCF that paves the way for the schools to join the Big 12 in 2023. The three schools announced in September they had accepted invitations to join the Big 12, which moved quickly to a rebuild its membership after Texas and Oklahoma revealed they planned to join the Southeastern Conference in 2025. Along with the addition of BYU in 2023, the Big 12 is set to be a 14-team conference for two years.

The American requires its members give more than two years' notice before they can leave the conference, plus a $10 million exit fee. The AAC said its remaining members agreed to terminate the memberships of Cincinnati, Houston and UCF, effective July 1, 2023. Terms were not disclosed. American Commissioner Mike Aresco thanked the leadership of the departing schools for arriving at a "sensible resolution." All three institutions enjoyed tremendous success under the American Athletic Conference banner, and all three were instrumental in taking the conference "to great heights, both athletically and academically," Aresco said. "We wish them the best and look forward to having them compete in our conference in 2022-23." - AP College Football

  04/20/22 - Corey KinerSr/2025, Cincinnati, 5-09, 209 (DS#32 RB) + More +

LSU sophomore running back Corey Kiner entered the NCAA transfer portal, he announced Monday morning. Kiner received first-team reps at times this spring before recently suffering a high ankle sprain, coach Brian Kelly said. The injury could have sidelined Kiner for two-to-three weeks, but he still appeared on track to have a role in LSU's offense. "I would like to start a new chapter in my life and explore my options to continue my career as a student-athlete elsewhere," Kiner wrote in a thank you note on Twitter. Kiner, a former four-star recruit from Cincinnati, Ohio, rushed for 324 yards and two touchdowns on 79 carries as a backup last season. He often displayed a blend of physicality and speed at 5-foot-9 and 217 pounds, giving him a low center of gravity to spin off tacklers. Entering the transfer portal will let other schools contact Kiner. He's expected to have plenty of options. In high school, Kiner also held offers from Cincinnati, Florida and Kentucky, among others. Even without Kiner, LSU has a full running back room. Coaches have raved about senior John Emery Jr., who has from a minor ankle sprain, and they'll add Penn State transfer Noah Cain this summer. - Baton Rouge Advocate
