Nebraska defensive star and captain Garrett Nelson will forgo a final season of college football and turn pro, he announced Tuesday on social media. The edge rusher and Scottsbluff native declared for the 2023 NFL Draft in a lengthy letter thanking fans, coaches and teammates. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound Nelson - who concluded his Husker career with 32 consecutive starts - got better as he went along. He landed second-team All-Big Ten honors in his fourth and final season after logging 65 tackles and 5.5 sacks. The co-captain turns 23 in March and earned a degree in finance last May. He leaves Nebraska with 167 career tackles, including 26 for loss with 12 sacks. - Lincoln Journal Star
