  Miami entered fall training camp with five running backs all challenging for playing time, but after a few weeks of camp, that depth has taken a hit. Third-year redshirt halfback Don Chaney Jr. suffered an injury, UM coach Mario Cristobal said, bringing Miami down to three healthy scholarship running backs. "He suffered an injury," Cristobal said. "There's no update on it. Hopefully, he'll be better sooner than later." Cristobal did not disclose the nature of Chaney's injury, but it comes on the heels of true freshman TreVonte' Citizen's injury, which Cristobal described as "significant." "It's going to require some time," Cristobal said Monday.

Chaney's injury is a blow to the Miami Belen Jesuit alum. He missed nearly all of the 2021 season after suffering an ACL and meniscus tear. He endured a recovery and rehabilitation process that he described as "ridiculously hard." "I was scared I was going to give up on myself," Chaney said at Miami's media day on Aug. 2. "I was like, 'Bro, I don't know if I can do this.' I never had an injury like this. I've had a shoulder [injury]; that's nothing. But an injury that can take a year or more to come back from - I was like, 'Bro, I don't think I can do this." - Sun Sentinel
