Zach Calzada's toughness is one of the lasting impressions he left on Fisher and his Texas A&M teammates before entering the transfer portal in the offseason. Calzada, who started 10 games for the Aggies last fall, transferred to Auburn in the spring and is firmly in the mix for the Tigers' starting quarterback job as fall camp approaches. That toughness he displayed at Kyle Field last November also left an impression on his competitors-turned-teammates at Auburn. "You want to play with somebody that got that dog in him," Auburn running back Tank Bigsby said. "He didn't back down, he didn't give up, he didn't quit. I'd rather play with somebody that doesn't want to quit all the time." Calzada and offensive lineman Layden Robinson shared the Texas A&M team award for toughness at the end of last season, both of them being honored with that accolade during the team's annual December banquet.

Robinson was part of the same signing class as Calzada and has long respected him as both a quarterback on the field and a person off it. He admitted that it was tough to see Calzada transfer to Auburn, but he spoke fondly of the player the Tigers are getting. "Zach is going to be amazing for the Auburn Tigers; it's just going to make it even tougher when we play them," Robinson said. "…Zach has earned a lot of our guys' respect, and that's never going to change, because we know what type of guy Zach Calzada is, and we know what he brings to the table." - Birmingham News
