With the first round of the 2022 NFL draft in the books, the buzz for 2023 is already building. And it could be historic for Alabama. Not only could Bryce Young and Will Anderson become the fourth set of college teammates to go No. 1 and 2, but projections also have the Crimson Tide in contention to break its own first-round record. Early forecasts have as many as eight Alabama players among the top 32 prospects after a relatively lean Thursday night.

The program produced two first-rounders this year -- Evan Neal and Jameson Williams -- for its lowest total since 2016. Only Ryan Kelly went among the first 32 picks that year as the eventual NFL starters slipped to Round 2 including Reggie Ragland, Derrick Henry, A'Shawn Robinson and Jarran Reed. Alabama tied the record for first-round picks last year when the six equaled Miami's total from 2004. That beat the five Crimson Tide first-round picks from 2020. The potential for the 2023 class also speaks to the shifting nature of the game. Like on Thursday, transfers figure largely into the projections for next spring. - Birmingham News
