Consider FAU head coach Willie Taggart a supporter of potential shakeup that could be making its way into college sports. The NCAA Board of Governors announced Wednesday that it supports a proposal that would allow college student-athletes to earn money off their names and likenesses, a change that Taggart supported during a recent interview with ESPN West Palm (106.3 FM). "They are changes that are probably needed and that'll be good for our student-athletes," Taggart said during the interview. Among the changes that were listed in the NCAA's news release was that collegiate student-athletes would be allowed to reference their sport and school in advertisements, but not with school logos or branding. The proposal would also allow for collegiate student-athletes to sign endorsement contracts and others deals with third-party institutions, as long the schools they attend weren't involved in them being paid.

Taggart said collegiate student-athletes should be rewarded for their name and likenesses, adding that it'll be the responsibility of himself, other coaches and administrators to make sure the student-athletes are educated and informed. "It goes back to a teaching process and we're going to teach our young people throughout this whole ordeal because it's going to be different for them," Taggart said. "We just can't throw it out there and say, "OK, you're just going to do this.' They're young people, we can't forget that. And we have to teach and help them understand what's going on as we present these things they can get now." - Sun-Sentinel
