2023 ALL-BIG TEN HONORABLE MENTION: Zach Carpenter,...Carpenter made 27 appearances with 25 starts over three seasons at Indiana, which included all 12 games at center in 2023. His 2023 season included 445 pass blocking snaps and just 10 total pressures allowed. His pressure percentage of 2.3% was the third lowest in the Big Ten. His efforts on the line helped Indiana trim 12 sacks off its season total from the 2022 (26), as the unit allowed just 14 sacks in 2023. - Indiana Football

Indiana built a national football reputation in 2020 based on its second straight winning season and joyous locker room celebrations following landmark wins that were broadcast throughout the country. As a result, the Hoosiers were able to attract three transfers from major college programs that could fill holes and impact the 2021 season. Junior offensive lineman Zach Carpenter (Michigan), senior receiver D.J. Matthews (Florida State) and senior defensive end Ryder Anderson (Ole Miss) all will get a chance to make first impressions when spring football practices start next week. The 6-foot-5, 329-pound Carpenter, from famed Cincinnati Moeller, was recruited by the Hoosiers two years ago before picking Michigan, where he made two starts at center last season. He will battle for a starting role with the Hoosiers after Harry Crider declared for the NFL Draft.

"I've always seen myself as a leader," Carpenter said, when asked about the physical and mental demands of center. "I think definitely getting some Big Ten playing experience is beneficial to that as well. Obviously, there's no fans, but I'm confident that even if there is, that I'll be able to lead the offensive line out there." Carpenter said Indiana's success last season - the Hoosiers were 6-2 and posted their most Big Ten wins since 1987 - factored into his decision to come to IU. - Lawrence Journal World

Indiana announced the addition of Michigan transfer offensive lineman Zach Carpenter on Monday. The 6-5, 329-pound Carpenter, out of Archbishop Moeller in Cincinnati, appeared in six games as a redshirt freshman last season for Michigan and started one game at center. "He's a young man that we recruited heavily coming out of high school," Indiana coach Tom Allen said. "We know his family well, we know him well and we are happy for him to be able to join us. He has experience as a starter in the Big Ten and brings us high character, high work ethic and a lot of toughness." Carpenter could step in to replace senior center Harry Crider, who announced his intention to declare for the NFL draft on Sunday. - Herald Bulletin

A redshirt freshman offensive lineman on the Michigan football team who announced in December plans to enter the NCAA's transfer portal is leaving. But he's remaining in the Big Ten. Zach Carpenter, who started two games at center this season for the Wolverines, said Thursday night that he plans on transferring to Indiana. "Excited to start a new opportunity as a Hoosier!," the 6-foot-5, 329-pound lineman wrote on Twitter. Carpenter also used the Hoosiers' mantra "LEO" ("love each other") and tagged Indiana head coach Tom Allen and offensive line coach Darren Hiller. - Ann Arbor News
