  08/09/22 - RB Tre BradfordrJr/2026, North Texas, 5-11, 210 (DS#999 RB) + More +

LSU football running back Tre Bradford has left the team and the university, coach Brian Kelly announced on Thursday after LSU's first preseason practice. Bradford was not on LSU's roster that was handed out to the media prior to the first day of preseason practices on Thursday. This is the second time Bradford has departed the program. After his freshman season in 2020, he left LSU and transferred to Oklahoma, only to exit Norman and return to Baton Rouge in September at the start of last season. "Tre has been separated from the university," Kelly said. "There are laws that I can't get into specifics there, but he is no longer on the roster." Bradford rushed for 69 yards on 12 attempts in two seasons for the Tigers. Following Bradford's departure, LSU has four running backs on scholarship for this season, including senior John Emery Jr., sophomore Armoni Goodwin, junior Noah Cain and junior Josh Williams. In April, LSU also lost sophomore Corey Kiner, who transferred to Cincinnatti According to 247Sports Composite, Bradford was the No. 13 running back and No. 130 recruit in the nation out of Lancaster High School in Texas. - Lafayette Daily Advertiser

Running back Tre Bradford was not listed on LSU's roster or seen during the 30-minute viewing period of practice on Thursday. "Tre has been separated from the university, and there are laws that I can't get into specifics there," head coach Brian Kelly said. "But he is no longer on the roster." Bradford, who transferred to Oklahoma briefly last summer before returning to LSU, missed most of last season with a hamstring injury. He returned during the final regular season game against Texas A&M, carrying the ball twice for 11 yards. The junior four-star recruit from Lancaster, Texas, appeared in five games during his freshman season. Bradford would have provided depth at running back. Without him, LSU has senior John Emery Jr., junior Noah Cain, sophomore Armoni Goodwin and junior Josh Williams. - Baton Rouge Advocate

  09/03/21 - RB Tre BradfordrJr/2026, North Texas, 5-11, 210 (DS#999 RB) + More +

Bradford's departure marks the fourth running back the Sooners have lost this season. The team dismissed Seth McGowan and Mikey Henderson during the offseason due to felony charges stemming from an alleged armed robbery on April 15. Marcus Major was reportedly declared ineligible to play this season due to academic issues. But Bradford's departure so late into fall camp is especially tough for the Sooners, as he was expected to be the third running back on the depth chart behind Kennedy Brooks and Eric Gray. So after transferring to Oklahoma, why would Bradford decide to leave right before the team's first game?

Even Riley isn't sure. "I would love to explain what happened...I really don't have an explanation," Riley said on Tuesday. "It was a strange situation. It's part of the deal with the transfer portal. and then even in a COVID year, you're bringing in some people that you flat out know less about. [You can] do all the homework you want, you just don't know. "You look at the whole group of transfers that we brought in, I mean, again, from buy-in and culture guys and guys doing the right thing, we've added a tremendous percentage. But we missed on this one. I mean, we just flat out did." - Norman Transcript

The Sooners running back room had yet another setback on Thursday. Per a report from the OU Daily, running back Tre Bradford has missed the last two practices and is no longer with the team. The transfer running back from LSU was one of only three scholarship ball carriers on Oklahoma's rooster, along with Kennedy Brooks and Eric Gray. Running back Marcus Major was ruled ineligible for the season earlier this week due to an academic issue, per reports. - Norman Transcript

OU added some running back depth this week. Tre Bradford, who spent last season at LSU, made his transfer to the Sooners official, further beefing up a position that has been in flux this offseason. Bradford joins Tennessee transfer Eric Gray, who joined OU in time for spring ball, as transfer additions at running back. The need for another back arose after Seth McGowan's removal from the team following an alleged armed robbery in April. OU also lost Rhamondre Stevenson, who entered the NFL Draft, and T.J. Pledger, who transferred to Utah, from last year's team. Bradford (6-foot-0, 190 pounds) ran for 58 yards on 10 carries in five games last season with the Tigers. He also had three catches for 13 yards and a touchdown. He had nine carries for 53 yards in LSU's win over Ole Miss on Dec. 19. Coming out of Lancaster, Texas, Bradford was a 2020 four-star running back who chose LSU over a group that included Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Texas and Wisconsin. - Daily Oklahoman

LSU running back Kevontre Bradford, a former four-star recruit who played in a limited role in his first season last year, has reportedly entered the NCAA transfer portal. The news, which was reported first by AL.com, comes at a time in which the LSU backfield is quite deep and competition for playing time is high. LSU football in 2021: Who are possible starters on offense? Here are our projections

The two main starters, Ty Davis-Price and John Emery, both are returning for their junior seasons while two high profile recruits, Armoni Goodwin and Corey Kiner, have just arrived on campus. Josh Williams, a former walk-on, also played in all 10 games during his freshman season last year. Bradford, a 6-foot, 190-pound sophomore, rushed for 58 yards on 10 carries during the 2020 season. He also caught three passes for 13 yards and a touchdown. - Baton Rouge Advocate
