SEPT 13 PIONEER CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brandon Easterling, Dayton, Senior, Safety, Fairborn, Ohio,...Easterling led Dayton with eight tackles and his forced fumble early in the third quarter helped Dayton secure a 17-10 victory against Eastern Illinois, Saturday. On the first play from scrimmage following Dayton's go-ahead scoring drive, Easterling forced a fumble from an EIU wide receiver and it was recovered by Dayton. The Flyers scored on the ensuing drive to extend their lead to 14-3. After Dayton forced a three-and-out on the next EIU drive following its second touchdown, Easterling returned the punt 29 yards to set Dayton up at the EIU 31-yard line, leading to a Dayton field goal for a 17-3 advantage. He also was credited with a half tackle for loss and had another tackle for no gain. Others Nominated: Devin Aguilar (Sr., CB, Butler); Jonathan Hammond (So., DL, Davidson); Alex Rogers (5th Yr., S, Drake); Vaughn Taylor Jr. (Sr., DE, Morehead State); Jayden Martin (RFr., DB, Presbyterian); Michael Hawkins (Sr., CB, San Diego); Alex Villas (RFr., DB, Stetson); Kohlton Sherman (Sr., DB, Valparaiso). - Pioneer League Football

  10/01/20 - SS Brandon EasterlingrSr/2022, Dayton, 5-11, 199 (DS#28 SS) + More +

With the NFL and the FBS keeping their regular schedules as of now, playing in a spring season would make it virtually impossible for Easterling to prepare for, much less be selected in, the 2021 NFL Draft. Because of this, holding off and waiting for the 2021 fall season could be the better option for the Fairborn, Ohio, native. As a non-athletic scholarship program, seniors (Easterling included) have to face the difficult decision of whether to come back and pay for a more regular season in their fifth year, or miss out of a final fall football season altogether. "I want to (come back for a fifth year), I know for a fact I'm going to play college football again," Easterling said. "I have to find a way...I've expressed to you how much I love the game of football. It's just, I've got to really sit down and try and figure out, financially, if I can do it."

Easterling said he is still weighing his decision, and he still doesn't know for sure which way he will go. However, through this difficult off-season and decision-making process, a major motivation for Easterling was when teammate Adam Trautman was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. With Trautman at tight end and Easterling at safety, Easterling was able to get plenty of tough work in at practice and benefited from scouts coming in to see Trautman, allowing Easterling to show off his skills and develop his draft stock. "(Adam getting drafted) did wonders for me," Easterling said. "If you play college football, you should look at it as, "Why not me?" No matter what level..."why not me' because you get one shot at football, and when you walk away from it, you're done." - Flyer News

NOV 18 PIONEER FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Brandon Easterling, Dayton, Junior, Safety, Fairborn, Ohio,...Easterling tied PFL records with three interceptions and a 100-yard pick six as Dayton rallied for a 46-29 PFL win at Drake, Saturday. His pick six could not come at a better time, denying Drake an opportunity to go ahead by 10 points at halftime and instead giving Dayton its first lead of the contest. The Flyers carried that momentum into the second half as they built a 17-point lead before Drake would respond again. Easterling led the Flyers with 15 tackles (10 solo) and amassed 138 yards on his three interceptions. He picked off passes on consecutive Drake drives - a five-yard return helping setup a Dayton scoring drive before he turned the tide with his 100-yard return. Easterling also picked off a pass with a 33-yard return to setup Dayton's final scoring drive. - Pioneer League Football
