Data Scout Notes: 2020: Transfer from Louisiana-Monroe

 Colby Suits, Louisiana-Monroe, Player News

The Colby Suits era at Louisiana-Monroe is over. ULM's starting quarterback announced on Twitter Monday that he has opted out of the season's final three games and placed his name in the NCAA transfer portal. The Warhawks sit at 0-8 overall and 0-5 in the Sun Belt Conference. Suits is the 15th player to leave the program since spring practice ended in March. Suits started all eight games in 2020, completing 151-of-248 attempts for 1,537 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. The sophomore threw for a career-best 377 yards against Texas State and was the fifth-ranked passer in FBS following a 334-yard performance against Georgia Southern. - The News-Star

Louisiana-Monroe has settled on a starting quarterback for Saturday's season opener. "We think it's been a really good competition between the two of them," Viator said during his Monday press conference. "Really a lack of spring and then just only one scrimmage with limited plays, we haven't seen enough I think is no. 1. No. 2 we have confidence in both guys, and the third thing is in normal years with injury, then you throw in COVID-19 also, I think it's smart to play multiple guys early in the season because you just never know who you're going to have what particular week."

Suits, who has been in ULM's system the longest, was the favorite to succeed Caleb Evans. A December signee, Hunt started as a freshman at Division II Central Missouri and last year at Trinity Valley (Texas) Community College. In ULM's only scrimmage of August camp, Suits directed the lone touchdown drive and finished 9-of-15 for 65 yards with a nine-yard score to wideout Malik Jackson. While Suits directed the first-team offense, junior Jeremy Hunt completed 8-of-13 passes for 61 yards with the second team. - The News-Star
