Former Eastern Washington University quarterback, Eric Barriere, has signed with the Michigan Panthers out of The United States Football League (USFL), as announced today (May 20). Barriere was invited to the Denver Bronco's mini-camp last weekend before signing with the Panthers, where he will wear #22. As announced yesterday, former EWU wide receiver Andrew Boston will make his way to the Canadian Football League (CFL) and has signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats after receiving a tryout with the Kansas City Chiefs earlier in May. Boston has been invited to the Tiger-Cats' training camp where he will wear #86. The USFL is in its inaugural season in the Spring of 2022, providing a 12-week (10 regular season weeks, two postseason) alternative to the National Football League (NFL) during the offseason. - Eastern Washington Football

Eric Barriere threw for one touchdown and ran for another and the Eastern Washington defense continually came up with big plays in a 19-9 win over Northern Iowa in the first round of the FCS playoffs on Saturday. The Eagles (10-2) advance to a second-round game on Friday night at conference rival Montana, the sixth-seed in the playoffs and a team they beat 34-28 in a battle of Top 10 teams in the middle of the season. Barriere connected with Nolan Ulm for a 26-yard touchdown to open the scoring. Barriere then spun out of a sack, weaved his way past several defenders and raced around the left in for an 18-yard score that made it 16-7 midway through the third quarter.

Three times the Panthers (6-6) stopped Eastern Washington on fourth down and out-gained the Eagles 423-412 but couldn't come up with clutch plays. Keshaun King had two of Eastern's three interceptions and linebacker Ty Graham's 13 tackles led a defense that held Northern Iowa to 2 of 15 on third down and 2 of 5 on fourth down. Two of the fourth down stops were in the fourth quarter, one at the EWU 3. All three picks were in the second half, the last two in the fourth quarter at the EWU 9 and 15. Theo Day threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Sam Schnee in the last minute of the second quarter to make it a 9-7 game. But on their first two possessions of the second half the Panthers missed a field goal and King had a 20-yard return on an interception to the UNI 27 to set up Berriere's run. - Western Kentucky/AP College Football

Eric Barriere passed for 411 yards and three touchdowns and Eastern Washington rallied for a 38-20 victory over UC Davis on Saturday night. Barriere completed 34 of 54 passes and has thrown for 3,526 yards with 32 TDs and only six picks this season. Pierce ran for 89 yards on 17 carries, while Barriere added 42 on seven totes. Roberson finished with six catches for 93 yards, while Talolo Limu-Jones caught six passes for 92. Barriere became the Big Sky Conference's career leader in passing yards with 12,676, breaking former Eagle Matt Nichols' record of 12,616. He is also tied with Vernon Adams Jr.'s program and Big Sky Conference mark for all-time touchdown passes with 110. Eastern Washington, which had lost back-to-back games, was eliminated from contention for the Big Sky Conference title - and its automatic entry into the FCS playoffs - when Montana State won earlier in the day but boosted its odds for an at-large berth with a road win over a potential playoff team.

UC Davis, ranked No. 4 in the FCS coaches poll, took a 17-14 lead on freshman Lan Larison's 97-yard kick-return score to open the third quarter. Barriere answered with an 18-yard TD toss to Dylan Ingram and EWU never trailed again. Isaiah Lewis and Tamarick Pierce had scoring runs for the Eagles in the fourth quarter. Freshman Miles Hastings staked UC Davis to a 7-0 lead after one quarter with a 1-yard TD toss to Jared Harrell. Barriere tossed TD passes covering 4 yards to Freddie Roberson and 3 yards to Efton Chism III to put the eighth-ranked Eagles (8-2, 5-2 Big Sky Conference) on top 14-7 midway through the second quarter. Isaiah Gomez's 29-yard field goal cut the Aggies' deficit to four at halftime. - Eastern Washington/AP College Football
