  Asher O'Hara threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Pierre Williams to cap the scoring with 6:28 to play and No. 2 seed Sacramento State beat Richmond 38-31 Saturday in the second round of the FCS playoffs. Sacramento State (12-0), ranked No. 2 in the FCS coaches poll, extended its program record for single-season wins. The Hornets play No. 7-seed Incarnate Word in the quarterfinals. Leroy Henley caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Reece Udinski to give the Spiders a 31-24 lead going into the fourth quarter but Jake Dunniway hit Marshel Martin for a 19-yard TD and, after Richmond missed a 46-yard field-goal attempt, Williams slipped behind a pair of defenders and was hit in stride by O'Hara's pass for the winning touchdown catch-and-run.

Williams finished with four receptions for 107 yards and Martin caught 10 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns for Sacramento State. The duo is the first to each have at least 100 yards receiving in the same game for the Hornets since the 2019 season. O'Hara threw a 5-yard TD pass to Martin that opened the scoring midway through the first quarter but Reece Udinski sandwiched touchdown passes of 25 yards to Jasiah Williams and 24 yards to Henley around a 1-yard scoring run by Savon Smith to give Richmond (9-4) a 21-7 lead early in the second quarter. Elijah Tau-Tolliver returned the second-half kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown that gave the Hornets a 24-21 lead. Udinski finished 21-of-39 passing for 216 yards and three touchdowns for Richmond.   2022 ALL-BIG SKY FIRST TEAM: WR Pierre Williams (SAC),...Williams earned first team honors for the third straight season and follows Roberts (1998-2000) and wide receiver Fred Amey (2002-04) as the only players in school history to do so. This season, Williams caught 35 passes for 514 yards and six touchdowns. He currently ranks second in school history with 2,762 career receiving yards, is tied for third with 21 touchdowns and is fourth with 170 receptions.   Pierre Williams caught seven passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns and Sacramento State beat Portland State 45-17 on Friday night. Asher O'Hara threw a 5-yard scoring pass to Williams to start the scoring, and later, in the second quarter, Jake Dunniway threw a 4-yard score to Williams for a 17-0 advantage. O'Hara's 39-yard touchdown run with 3:52 left before intermission made it 24-0.

The Vikings (4-6, 3-4) didn't reach the end zone until the fourth quarter when Quincy Craig scored on a 36-yard scoring run with 7:36 remaining. Jobi Malary later ran it in from 54 yards out. The win gave Sacramento State (10-0, 7-0 Big Sky) 10 victories for just the second time in school history. The only Hornet team to win double-digit games came in 1988. That season, the team was 8-2 in the regular season but went on to advance to the NCAA Div. II semifinals after playoff victories over UC Davis and North Carolina Central.   2022 PRESEASON BIG SKY FOOTBALL ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM: WR Pierre Williams (Sacramento State),...Williams, who has twice been named to the all-Big Sky first team (2019, 2021) earned his second preseason all-conference honor. Last fall, Williams led the Hornets with 764 receiving yards on 50 receptions. Williams, who was named first team in 2019, had 43 receptions for 664 yards two scores during the season. He averaged 83.0 yards per game in the eight games in which he caught a pass.   Pierre Williams recovered an onside kick that led to his to his game-winning touchdown reception with 23 seconds left - the Hornets' second score in the final 1:38 - and Sacramento State beat Northern Arizona 38-34 on Saturday. Jake Dunniway threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Gable before Devon Medeiros booted an onside kick over NAU's front line of defenders that Williams was able to snare at the Hornets 49-yard line. Five plays later Dunniway found Williams alone on the left side and he dove onto the pylon. The Lumberjacks (4-6, 2-4 Big Sky) used a 73-yard pass play from Case Cookus to Stacy Chukwumezie, a 54-yard field goal by Luis Aguilar and Joe Logan's 63-yard run in the final quarter to take a 34-24 lead. Logan finished with 210 yards rushing on 24 carries and three TDs. Dunniway threw for 384 yards, four touchdowns and an interception for the FCS eighth-ranked Hornets (7-3, 5-1).
